DRF is updating the points table as we go.
Be nice to keep this thread going along with it.

You're welcome.
This new system will take some getting used to.
DRF has laid it all out pretty clearly.

Win the BC Juv and get your 10 points, or you could just hope to get 3rd in the Sunland Derby or 4th in the Bluegrass to get those same 10 points. Shanghai Bobby has 20 points so far, and had the best 2yo season of this crop. I'm all for having to prove yourself again as a 3yo but for this horse to only have 20 points is wrong, and I am glad Pletcher has been speaking up in the media about this.

Heavily backloaded to generate more interest in the spring. Obviously It makes it almost impossible for horses to coast to the KD on early season earnings, although I can't remember that being a big issue in the past.
Waiting for the unintended consequences though.

I like it because the trending way eventually would have resulted in a near Md Sp Wt Derby.Earn it or go to the breeding shed now.Do not pass go.Do not collect 1 million dollars!

New points system
A plus, for me, is that the Delta Jackpot winner no longer has a free pass into the Derby gate.
The down side?
Seeing the BC Juvenile reduced to practically a non-event when it comes to Derby qualification.
The lasix issue aside, this event should be worth 50 points minimum to the winner.

Don't you think winning the BC Juv at least should earn him a spot in the gate for the KD?

Probably to much time between the races to make relevant, especially considering that precocious G1 2YR old winners are no lock to be competitive in the triple crown series even without being injured.

Not if there are 1-2 races between these particular starts.I hope the way things are these colts start more often. We are never going to see a Triple Crown winner again IMO unless these horses get some seasoning and competitive durability,so that once they hit the TC series they do have the foundation to take off from. The BC Juv is practically in a parallel universe come the first Saturday in May.

Updated standings
The Hollywood Futurity gives Violence 10 points on the Road to the Derby.
Points wise, though, it counts for little. Nice win, all the same.
Updated standings: http://www.drf.com/news/kentucky-der...oint-standings
Next race on the schedule is on Jan 5th, with the Sham at Santa Anita.
The next 9 races on the schedule are for 10 points to the winner.
From Feb 23rd, the points go up to 50 for the winner (8 races at that level).
From Mar 30th, it's 100 points to the winner (7 races like that)
The last two races are close to the Derby, and offer 20 points for a win.
Remaining schedule: http://www.drf.com/events/road-kentu...hurchill-downs
Good luck!

The Derby Trial
The thought occurs to me that, for the first time in years, the Derby Trial may actually come into play again for getting a horse to the Derby a week later.
If I made a line on the first trainer to attempt it, I would have D W Lukas at the top of the list.

At all CDI tracks, you get 50 points with the purchase of a large soft drink.
