Blue Ribbon Downs, 08 March 2003, 9th Race

Anybody have the size of the exacta pool for this race? My BRIS result chart has n/a as the size. The winning combo was ALL-6.

As with these ALL-X winners, BRIS does not list the pool size.

I know it is a strange question, but any help is appreciated.

My Equibase chart shows a pool of $353 for 7-ALL and $0 for ALL-6.

Wouldn't it make sense that they share the same pool?

Thanks. That is a little smaller than I expected, but it is in the range.

Probably they both shared the pool but Equibase reported it the way the did.

Did 7-ALL pay the same as ALL-6? If it did, then they shared the pool. Otherwise, they must have divided the pool in two, with different payouts due to different number of winning tickets.

I have always assumed that they were paid from the same pool and, hence, the same amounts in these ALL-type situations.

Interesting...

7-ALL paid $5.80 while ALL-6 paid $56.60. Even more interesting is that someone hit the $2 Quinella 6-7 and it paid $69.

Even more interesting was the track attendance of 586. Must've been one hell of a party. *laugh*

Thanks again.

They must have divided the pool in two. Half to each group. More people used 7 on top than 6 on bottom.

The person(s) who bet the quinella could have bet a boxed exacta and won the whole exacta pool.

I hate how BRIS does not list the pool sizes in these situations as well as when there is a dead heat and multiple combos are paid. Additionally, in both cases, they only list the payoff for one combo. For example, the 7-ALL payoff is not listed on their chart.

That sucks. BRIS ought to fix it. Not much point in having charts if they don't have the info in them. Does anyone know if the ones at TSN also leave out this info?

That brings to mind another question. How can you "clean" data if it's not there to begin with?

I never have been able to fathom this weird way of paying off exactas that no one hits. To my mind it should've paid off ONLY on 7-ALL. If no one had had the winning horse then it should've paid off ONLY on ALL-6. Evidently many tracks are using this bizarre payoff scheme (7-ALL + ALL-6) which is not consistent with the way they pay off on their trifectas and supers. The only reason that I can come up with for something this patently absurd is that maybe they are grubbing for breakage.

Another possibly designed ramification of this ridiculous payout scheme is that it forces one to buy more tickets (or wheel) in that it becomes very important that you hit it if you are using a longshot. There's not much gratification or profit in having a 60-1 on top if you end up having to share the payoff with everyone that had a much shorter priced horse that finished second.

I often get the feeling that tracks must employ people that stay up nights thinking of ways to screw their regular customers.

Cool

ANyone that includes the study of races at BRD deserves whatever odd inexplicable results they get.

I mean really, you may be measuring the speed ratings and payoffs of goats.

I've driven past the signs that point towards Blue Ribbon Downs, but I can't actually say I have any real proof of its actual existence. Why 500 people would go there at the same time is beyond any rational explanation! Crop circles in the infield? Someone built a baseball field on the track and they came? I have no idea!

Cato, what the hell are you talking about?

BRD is top class. On that same date, the 6th race Pick 3 pool had $8. The race before had $12!

The deepest pools in the country.

They run a lot of quarter horses at Blue Ribbon, and a lot of it is for the local horsemen. The track was actually built nearly 25 years before Oklahoma had parimutuel racing, and was originally on the Blue Ribbon Ranch.

I'm not real sure they ever really took to the parimutuel machines, and I suspect a lot of the betting is still just among the crowd. A good part of those massive pools you're talking about probably came in from the internet and the indian casinos.

They've been trying to come up with a plan to emerge from bankruptcy for some years, I'm not sure why. The city if Salisaw is now trying to get in on the act, so the future is very uncertain.

The few times I've been there, they had a fair crowd, and everyone was having a great time, but I think I was one of the few there who didn't know everybody else.

The 4th race had a $48 winner and the one person with the only $1 winning ticket on the Super took down the whole pool for a whopping payoff of $175.

Ouch.

The Pick 3 in that race also had an $8 pool (the same guy must've been rolling those Pick 3s ) with two $3 payouts (both all-alls) so the Pick 3 advocates wouldn't have made out too well with the parlay comparisons on that one.

But, in the 9th race there was a trifecta that paid off on "all" in a seven-horse field with a 2-1 shot on top. If someone had snagged it, they would've gotten the $1,167 pool. Notice that they didn't pay the tri out the same silly way that they did the exacta.
