They run a lot of quarter horses at Blue Ribbon, and a lot of it is for the local horsemen. The track was actually built nearly 25 years before Oklahoma had parimutuel racing, and was originally on the Blue Ribbon Ranch.
I'm not real sure they ever really took to the parimutuel machines, and I suspect a lot of the betting is still just among the crowd. A good part of those massive pools you're talking about probably came in from the internet and the indian casinos.
They've been trying to come up with a plan to emerge from bankruptcy for some years, I'm not sure why. The city if Salisaw is now trying to get in on the act, so the future is very uncertain.
The few times I've been there, they had a fair crowd, and everyone was having a great time, but I think I was one of the few there who didn't know everybody else.
