This is why California is such a damn joke

Jerry Brown Unveils Plan for 500,000 Green Jobs, Czar

California gubernatorial hopeful Jerry Brown unveiled a green jobs plan today that he says will create a half a million green jobs and will appoint a “Renewable Energy Jobs Czar.” Brown, who officially kicked off a heated race for California governor against former eBay CEO Meg Whitman at solar module maker Solaria last week, made the remarks at a meeting of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group on the Microsoft campus in Mountain View, Calif.

Check out reason 6

#6) The new "green economy" in Spain has been a total flop. Socialist leaders promised that implementing hardcore restrictions on carbon emissions and forcing the nation over to a "green economy" would result in a flood of "green jobs". But that simply did not happen. In fact, a leaked internal assessment produced by the government of Spain reveals that the "green economy" has been an absolute economic nightmare for that nation. Energy prices have skyrocketed in Spain and the new "green economy" in that nation has actually lost more than two jobs for every job that it has created. But Spain so far seems unwilling to undo all of the crazy regulations that they have implemented.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Brown

In 1970, Brown was elected California Secretary of State. Brown used the position, which was historically limited in power, to bring lawsuits against corporations such as Standard Oil of California, International Telephone and Telegraph, Gulf Oil, and Mobil for violation of campaign-finance laws and argued in person before the California Supreme Court.

Brown also enforced laws requiring members of the California State Legislature to disclose sources of campaign funds and investigated allegedly falsely-notarized documents that had allowed Richard Nixon to claim a large tax deduction. Brown also played an important role in the drafting and passage of the California Fair Political Practices Act.[ These highly-publicized actions resulted in statewide acclaim, and led to his election as governor in the next statewide election.

Upon election, he refused many of the privileges and trappings of the office, forgoing the newly constructed governor's residence (which was sold in 1983) and instead renting a modest apartment at the corner of 14th and N Streets, adjacent to Capitol Park in downtown Sacramento. Instead of riding as a passenger in a chauffeured limousine as previous governors had done, Brown was driven to work in a compact sedan, a Plymouth Satellite.

During his two-term, eight-year governorship, Brown had a strong interest in environmental issues. Brown appointed J. Baldwin to work in the newly-created California Office of Appropriate Technology, Sim Van der Ryn as State Architect, and Stewart Brand as Special Advisor. He appointed John Bryson, later the CEO of Southern California Edison Electric Company and a founding member of the Natural Resources Defense Council, chairman of the California State Water Board in 1976. Brown reorganized the California Arts Council, boosting its funding by 1300 percent and appointing artists to the council.[10]

In 1975, Brown obtained the repeal of the "depletion allowance", a tax break for the state's oil industry, despite the efforts of the lobbyist Joe Shell, a former intraparty rival to Richard M. Nixon. The decisive vote against the allowance was cast in the California State Senate by the usually pro-business Republican Senator Robert S. Stevens. Shell claimed that Stevens had promised him that he would support keeping the allowance: "He had shaken my hand and told me he was with me." Brown later rewarded Stevens with a judicial appointment, but Stevens was driven from the bench for making salacious telephone calls.

Brown appointed more women and minorities to office than any other previous California governor.

He wasn't a bad guy but it seems too late to change the course of that state

Let's see...add his 500,000 jobs to Pelosi's 400,000 that HC will create immediately, and we have almost a million new jobs.

I'm sure some here will believe that.

Psst...Goren...knock, knock. Anyone home? Are the lights even on? The Gov Terminator is about as liberal as they get. In other words -- he's a RINO. And you can see what he's done TO California.

The whole "green jobs" thing is a joke. In Spain for every "green job" created, 2.2 carbon jobs were lost.

It is really strange how he was a conservative several years ago when was first running and now after he falls on his face, he has became a liberal. I am a liberal and I never claimed him and I am not now. He is all yours. You can't get rid of him that easy. I can't wait for the right to turn on Meg Whitman if she is elected. In her case it will take less than a week.

That is why the Chinese are going full steam ahead with every alternate energy idea there is, while the USA is dragging their feet. The world is constantly changing and you either change with it(or lead the charge) or you get left behind.

As bad as AaaaNold has been, no, Moonbeam would not be an improvement. I have a long memory, and so do the voters, and 1975-1983 was quite enough of this screwball at the helm. Not real fond of Meg either, like Tom McClintock said, electing her would be like Arnolds 3rd term. Poor California.

Goren, I suggest you look into this issue. It has been studied and proven. Spain is in the tank behind a green initiative.

As usual you are mis-informed. Spain was in good shape until the banking lead recession hit Europe. Spain was/is heavily dependent on the tourist trade. When the recession hit, Europeans stopped traveling and Spain's economy went into the tank. When Europe's economy recovers and Europeans start taking vacations again, Spain will be fine.

The drop in tourism is not the reason the green economy failed. Their own studies have shown the increase in regulation has led to job loss, why do you think it will work here in the US? Are you willing to have your energy costs sky-rocket (to quote Obama)?
