Fairgrounds Race 7 2/24/09 Pool Question
Sorry for the elementary question but something isn't computing for me....
At a 25% takeout, with a total super pool of $30,409, the pool after takeout is $22,806.75.
How can I determine how many winning tickets there were? It doesn't seem to pan out to an even # of tickets with a payout of $15,695 for $2 (I tried 10 cent payouts etc too).
The chart is here: http://www.drf.com/drfPDFChartRacesI...=20090224&RN=7
Thank you.

29 winning dime tickets.
each dime ticket paid 784.75
784.75 X 29 = 22,757.00
I think the rest is breakage. Or, the takeout rate isn't exactly 25 pct?

The $2 payout price does not mean that a $2 ticket was sold (although one could have been in this case, plus nine $0.10's as Imriledup points out), it only provides the payment rate per $2.
I think the tracks like to pump up enthusiasm by charting large pay off sums on exotics, even when they're not payed.

I know a $2 ticket wasn't sold - well, likely. That would mean there were only two winners (and no dime winners). I had it for $1, my biggest score ever, by far. Never had the automatic witholding for >5K take effect on my wagers before.
Thanks for mentioning breakage- that seems to make the most sense.
PS - I am taking off wagering until Derby day - can't be greedy.

Congrats Beck and contrats to Uncle Sam too. He made a couple grand off you.
(next time you bet supers, bet it for 1 dime and hit repeat 9 times.)
If you dime repeated, they wouldn't have taken money off the top.

Thanks!
I was at the OTB in a pinch - they are the most dysfunctional in the nation and don't allow dime wagers on FG. If I was at home/had access to the computer, I would have absolutely bet 4 or 5 dime base wagers.

Thats why you hit it, you called it out for a buck!! The racing gods were watching. The US Govt appreciates that......last time i checked, they could use the money!

Thanks, everyone.
It was a score of inches - had the #3 horse held third (she lost it by a nose), I would be out $128.
