Tracks with Turf Sprints

Y'all,

I am looking for some data for a long term project. Which tracks offer turf sprints?

When the Downs of Albuquerque moves to its new location at Moriarity, we will add a turf course. The new track will be a mile in circumference with a 7f turf inside of the main.

We trying to configure the course best to support turf sprints as well as turf routes.

I just want to begin looking at the layout of other 7f turf courses that offer turf sprints.

Thanks in advance

Canterbury has them, and their turf course is also 7fur.

Are there any tracks with turf courses that don't card sprints? Some of us wish there were.

Hawthorne also has a 7f turf course, although the finish line is close enough to the first turn that the shortest 2-turn race they run is 7.5f. I know they run turf sprints at 5f and 5.5f, and 2 turns at 7.5f, 1m, 1-1/16m & 1-1/8m, though they don't run a lot of turf sprints at HAW, at least not yet, but have a limited number of dates where the weather permits turf racing (mostly October and some November, in Chicago)

Track layout and finish line location will be critical in determining possible distances for your new track, and the tightness and distance of the turns will be a factor. Plus you'll likely want to allow some room for adjustable rails to preserve lanes of the turf course.

Stu,
This link will provide what you are looking for as far as turf course circumference, track by track.

Stu- most 7F tracks can only handle 5F grass races. A few like FG card and as another poster said I believe Haw card 5 1/2 due to finish line positioning. One thing you may want to look into is use of chutes. Mth has a chute on both front and back stretch that allow it to card races at 5 1/2 and 1 1/8 miles.

Thanks - I didn't know it when I started the thread but that is exactly for what I was looking. The 'backstretch chute' as seen in the following link:

why not plan a better configuration?

Why not configure the main track to be 8.5 F. Then with a chute you can run 6F turf sprints? Anything shorter is just too short.

Yes. It will also be the second turf course in the mountain time zone after Turf Paradise.

Here is a list of tracks from 5/1/07 to 4/31/08, and the number of Turf races of 7 furlongs or less. It doesn't include tracks that I don't keep in my database (mainly the smaller tracks). The actual number of races might be less if there were dead heats.
