DRF/NTRA Contest @ Suffolk, Sat.Oct.18th

DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Tournament







Saturday, October 18

This Saturday, Oct.18th, Suffolk Downs hosts the second of two qualifying tournaments for the Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship to be held January 23-24, 2009 at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas, NV.

The winner of this tournament will qualify for the National Championship.

In addition to qualifying, cash prizes will be awarded to the top ten finishers. All money received in entry fees will be returned to these prize winners. Additional prizes will be provided courtesy of Brisnet.

The entry fee is $60 and includes a Daily Racing Form, a simulcast program and lunch (12:30-2:30). All entrants will also receive a door prize courtesy of Brisnet.

The tournament will consist of a total of 15 pre-selected races from Suffolk Downs and other simulcast tracks. The races will be posted Friday, October 17.

Registration will begin at 11 a.m. The first race of the tournament will be at approximately 3 p.m. and the final race will be at around 6:15 p.m.

Players begin with a mythical bankroll of $60, consisting of fifteen $2 win-place bets ($4), one for each of the designated races.

All participants will play the same 15 races. To reserve a spot in the tournament, send Suffolk Downs an e-mail at publicity@suffolkdowns.com.
The tournament will be limited to 275 players. Limit one entry per person.

LAMBLEY WINS HANDICAPPING TOURNAMENT,
QUALIFIES FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN LAS VEGAS


Mark Lambley of Naples, FL took top honors in the qualifying tournament held Saturday, October 18 to earn a spot in the DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship, which will be held January 23-24 at Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa in Las Vegas.

Lambley finished with a total mythical bankroll of $254.40, besting Pierre Poulin of Boston, MA by $8.20. Lambley and Poulin were two of four contestants who had Stormy’s Smile, the winner of the fifth race at Belmont, who paid $153.00 to win and $46.00 to place.

The tournament drew 176 entrants from 13 states and Canada. Players were required to place mythical $2 win and place wagers on one horse in each of 15 pre-selected races from Suffolk Downs, Belmont Park, Keeneland and Oak Tree at Santa Anita. All selections had to be submitted prior to the first race of the tournament and there was no cap on prices.

Cash prizes were awarded to the top 10 finishers:

Lambley will join Dean Goulet of Nashua, NH and Doug Beaton of Salem, NH in representing Suffolk Downs at the National Championship. The pair of Granite-staters qualified in a previous tournament held August 2.
