FERNANDO JARA
After Alan Garcia's huge weekend, I suddenly remembered Fernando Jara and wondered where he is. Anyone know?

I've been wondering the same thing. Seems like he enjoyed some success on some mounts in which it would have been hard to lose. That being said, it's not like he was totally without talent. I felt he had potential. Perhaps his big money race successes in 2006 temporarily opened up more day to day opportunities for him and he wasn't as competitive as everyone had hoped. Maybe he became discouraged. I hope he didn't get into any trouble. I hope he's okay. It was only a year and a half ago he won the Dubai Cup on Invasor.

Looks like he's riding in Panama. If you do a Google news search, he's mentioned in a lot of recent articles.

If he's riding in Panama, that's pretty strange. I know that he got some breaks riding for a top barn, but still, when you have that type of success at a young age you would think he would be a leading rider on one of the circuits, even if its not NY or So. Cal.

Does he have a warrant out for his arrest in the U.S. ?
That would be a good reason to leave

I figure it's one of three things.
A. He got fat with his quick financial gains.
B. He's on vacation with Patrick V.
C. Both of the above.

Is there also a precendent for making completely unfounded, easily disproven comments about someone who, by all accounts, is a perfectly ok guy?

Didn't he get hurt when Gomez's mount bore out into him and his horse went down during the winter? The irony was the stewart's blamed him.

All I'm saying is, if the topic was Gary Stevens going to ride in Europe, or Kieran McLaughlin going to train in Dubai, it would be absolutely ludicrous for someone to suggest that their motivation was that they were on the run from the law. But since we're talking about a guy who speaks with an accent, apparently that automatically makes it plausible speculation to some people.
But yeah, it's fine by me if you don't continue this discussion... I'm sure you're way behind on all the xenophobic chain hate-mail you need to forward to your mailing lists.
