A stake at 4.5 furlongs? These are not quarter horses?

The farthest quarter horses run is 870.
Joey P is a bet against in this spot. For some reason, top line sprinter horses that ship into CT for these spots do not do well.

Having grown up attending Los Alamitos, I am well aware of that. Comment was facetious

I'd love to see this race open to all breeds. Some quarterhorses would have decent shots.

I'm actually wrong on this - I've seen quarterhorses run 1000 yards = 4.5 furlongs. I can't think of any quarterhorse right now that could beat this field at 4.5 furlongs. Maybe a healthy Snowbound Superstar?

They have a stake at Calder called the Rocket Man. It is run at 2 furlongs. Funny thing is when they cash the check, they get just as much as running 2 miles.

Is that another one run with no use of the whip?

Joey P ripped a first click of 21.15 and never looked back. Picks up a nice check and win number 15. Good for Joey P. And he paid 6.40. I thought they would let him go at 3/5.

He was the best of this group tonight by far. Looks as if he is in great shape to head back to Monmouth Park for his next race on 7-5.
