Math help on Dutching

Since I'm not a math whiz I wonder if someone can give me some potential ways of working out a dutching method.

Assuming one is capable of narrowing most races down to 4 contenders or to 50% of the field, what % of races would you have to get down to 4 or 5 contenders in order to show a profit dutching.

I don't know how clear I am on this question but I know most of you can give me some mathematical possibilities.

In the past I've been able to get about 70% of races down to 4-5 contenders and since I'm a spot player, I usually play the longest one or the 2 longest ones but I thought it might be possible to work out a dutching method in order to minimize loses. Any ideas?
