Talking Today's History - April 29th

On this date in 1976 The State of Connecticut opened its own betting parlors in 11 communities.

That's all for today. I'll have much more tomorrow.

I just found a couple of more historical items in my newspaper this morning:

On this date in 1901 His Eminence, ridden by Jimmy Winkfield, won the only Kentucky Derby ever raced in the month of April.

On this date in 1998, for the first time in the 124-year history of the Kentucky Derby, a redraw was ordered during the post position draw. Churchill Downs officials allowed ESPN to control the announcing of the draw, and commentator Chris Lincoln called the No. 15 pill twice while picking the post positions.
