Angry Gas Prices

Just felt like I needed to bitch again about the INSANE gas prices as they continue to creep back toward the $3 mark for regular.

Sorry .. but I just can't help but think back to a few years ago .. and how much cheaper gas was .. maybe $1.50, $1.60 .. and today I paid $2.73 .. $35 to fill up .. which won't last the week. No wonder why I'm broke!!

But of course, it's my fault .. I obviously have not tried hard enough to find a car-pool buddy .. because everyone keeps the same schedule as me, not to mention travels where I need to be!

(And no, I do not drive a gas guzzler).

I drive 120 miles to work on Monday morn, stay overnight in one house on Monday night and come home on Tuesday afternoon. I work from home (the new house) on Wednesday and drive back to work on thursday morn. Come home for the weekend on Friday afternoon..........2 houses two hours apart........the real estate market sucks and I just lowered the price on the old house to seriously low numbers.......big time loss.........just to dump it. Are we having fun yet? !!! Got gas for 2.48 today

I decided to finally buy the truck I wanted since I am going to be on the road so much. About 21 mpg on the highway so far, after 2 weeks.

On the bright side, it just emailed me and told me everything was fine..........with itself.......now if I could just get it to drive while I sleep.......... "Onstar Ready! " I have a new girlfriend for those lonely trips...

How about $0.179 per gallon ---

That's what regular leaded gasoline cost on the worst coast when I left for Korea in September 1950. Since then the average price for almost everything has increased by about 20+ times. In my book that puts unleaded 87 octane at about $3.58 per gallon so at 3 bucks it's still cheap. Remember, oil was about $4.00 per barrel in 1950. That's 22 times the price of a gallon of gas back then. Today's price per barrel, $68 / $3 = the same 22 times, so it's all relative. Blame the increase on the Federal Reserve. They're the ones that promote unrestricted credit and debt.

In the mid 50's the average price was 19.9 a gal, then there was a gas war going on, could hop over the border to NY and get reg leaded gas for 9.9 a gal. In 52 or 53 a pack of lucy strikes was 23 cents. In 1964 my father build a new colonal home for less than $10,000.00, that same home today here would cost you over $250,000.00 without the land.

When I was about 8 or 9, 1949, I can remember my father and my uncles sitting around the table bitching about the price of things and the need to grow their own vegetables and so on. Back then we still had doctors that did home visits, my lastest visit to the doctors office, I figured he made close to $800.00 an hr for the time spent with me. My son spent 2 days in the hospital banged up from a fall, the bill came to $14,000.00 not counting the doctors. My father could have added another 600 square feet to his house for that price. The latest news from Wall Street is inflation is under control. Thanks to the Feds 15 or 16 point rise in interest rates. The only thing I find cheep is the DRF.

I remeber gas wars of the 60's with prices going as low as 7-8-9 cents a gallon! They checked your oil and water, cleaned the windshield, gave out free maps, and wore ties. Said than you at the end.

Nowadays, they sit inside and flip you off as you drive away!

Okay .. so today gas is up again ... anywhere from about $2.81 to $2.89 for regular.

That's $35 to fill up Tuesday, and another $20 for a half tank today.

In my opinion oil should no longer be considered a commodity and should be scratched from speculators, it's not renewable like pork bellies or corn. We need price controls until we make the move to alternate sources of energy and no longer dependent on others when it comes to our national security. War is already here and it will get much worse before it gets better. Meanwhile we should build up our reserves to the point where we will ready for any eventuality. Anyone who thinks otherwise has learned nothing and ignores history.

Excellent point, TD...and we should nationalize the oil industry as well. Oil is far too impartant and limited to be allowed on the market. After all, as citizens of this country, it should be our property to begin with. Would be allow business to own the air or water?

Our friend Puken did just that, Russia has Europeans by the throat now. He and his corrupt criminals took control of the oil and gas industry. Remember that little bear cub I mentioned some time ago? Well he's grown up now.

I cannot believe this is coming from Tom.
In Evart Michigan there is a conflict going on right now concerning water. Nestle, an international company is putting in a water bottling plant. There was some debate prior to the plant being started at all, will they deplete the water supply ? However they won and began building their plant etc. Then more politics. Our Democratic governor insisted all waters sold from this plant must be sold in the great lakes area. This put a hold on project and of course the Republicans put out their spin about how Granholm is restriciting economic growth in our state. My thoughts were, she was just protecting our water according to laws set up by the states bordering the great lakes and Canada.
If Nestle is allowed to sell this water anywhere what is to stop them from selling it to Saudi Arabia ? Or what if they decided the water can be bottled more efficiently in India and start pumping us dry filling tankers to ship to India etc. ? So yes business is attempting to own the water. And I have seen gas stations where they have a charge for air.
One more thing about water. A few years back Illinois wanted to use lake Michigan to flush Chigago. Illinois is part of the group that has a say in the great lakes water control but, they were turned down.
As the population shifts to the southwest there will be more and more attempts at draining the great lakes to provide water for the dessert areas. Watch for more fights in this area in the near future.
