Jockeys (cont'd)

It's all about intent. When a top rider appears on a questionable looking horse, the horse shouldn't automatically be tossed.

10th race Wednesday at Gulfstream. A wide open field of filly turf maidens. Catalano has a private purchase in the race who's getting bet(he's 35% first time in his barn) and the go-to rider at the meet for Catalano/Calabrese has been John Velazquez. George Weaver has an uncoupled entry in the race: a first time starter and a lightly raced horse named Bea Plus, who has 3 hideous looking races. The favorites all appear to be vulnerable. This could be a good spot for a first time starter. It also could be a good spot for a move-up trainer like Catalano. Johnnie V basically has his choice of those two and the thrice badly beaten Bea Plus. Who does he end up on? Bea Plus. Guess who wins at pays over $35?

I'd like to say I hit it but it cost me a P4. This one was no standout, but the JRV presence, the blinkers off and the fact she probably had a legit excuse in her dull turf race made this one a live longshot. Hope somebody hit it.
