Spyware programs?

I currently have the "Spy Hunter" software and I'm not sure it's doing the job. Does anyone here have any good or bad experiences with spyware programs? Also, is there an inexpensive way to keep these bugs from downloading to my computer every time I log on?

Also, can anyone recommend a utility program to scan my computer for hidden errors and problems?

Good product also. I just prefer spybot. But the dirty little secret is........ I have been known to use both. And they sometimes find something the other didn't..............

Here is something to try:

Run your Spyware program after booting your computer in safe mode. It will find more things. Run it in regular mode, reboot in safe mode, and run it again. You will be surprised. I don't know why this happens, but it works.

Safe mode allows you to boot your computer with the bare basics only. No fancy drivers, you'll get the lowest video resolution, but its a great troubleshooting tool. How to get into safe mode varies by computer, but usually involves holding the F5 or F8 key at start up.
