The amount of LNG we could produce in this country is staggering. I take care of 26 wells here in ND. Just my route alone produced 15 million cubic feet of gas yesterday. That would heat all of Minneapolis in the dead of winter. And we get very little for it.

T. Boone Pickens started pushing to convert diesel and gas engines a few years back(2008) into LGN. Of course, there isn't a delivery system in place for such a wide ranging plan. I understand that plans have already started in this conversion. Do you have any info that you could share?

I don't think we'll see any real effort to do what T Boone thinks we should do. Natural gas is really just a bonus from oil production. The people holding/buying the oil also have stake in the refining in this country. They're not gonna do anything that would hurt them in that department. There isn't enough profit margin in refining gasoline to take any serious hits. The problem as you mentioned is an infrastructure shortage. And very expensive to build that in comparison to gasoline. Many of the oil companies that have thousands of fleet vehicles have their own LNG refilling stations and their vehicles are all dual fuel. I drove one for a few days when I was in OKC for work when I worked for Chesapeake Energy. You don't have any idea when it's running on gasoline or LNG. They're really pretty cool. There are a host of other reasons I don't think it'll be a reality unless there is some major breakthroughs in technology.

Thank you, for your much respected insights. My speculative venture of natural gas moving into the transportation industry in a big way has turned into a "pipe dream."

While the LNG situation is a bright spot, the EPA under Trump has done very little to change its renewable fuel mandates.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency proposed new targets Wednesday for the amount of renewable fuels that must be blended into the nation’s fuel supply next year.

The agency proposes that the amount of conventional ethanol, typically made from corn, remain at 15 billion gallons in 2018.

But it dropped the level of cellulosic biofuel, considered the next generation of ethanol, to 238 million gallons from 311 million gallons.

Cellulosic ethanol in Iowa is made from corn cobs, husks and other biomass.

I don't understand this action. The new head of the EPA is a Republican from Oklahoma and is on record as being a global warming skeptic.

Oops, upon further review, the turd in the punch bowl is a campaign speech by Trump calling for an increase in the ethanol mandate. Iowa is one of the biggest beneficiaries of ethanol pork, and Trump made the promise during the campaign for the GOP primary at a speech before the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, i.e., the ethanol producers.
