Dayton: No super stretch

Why would they build a track without a super stretch. Also, they are limiting the field size to 9. Anyone know the answer?

I don't have any answers to OP but I'll post this in here.

Dayton's Morning Line

I'm guessing it's a Trackmaster Line because it's capped at 30/1

So far it's been pretty good except for a couple of glaring misses.

MISCHIEVOUS JESSE 30/1 won last night at 3/2
REISIN IN THE SUN 30/1 off at 4/1

It's a 5/8's track, 9 horses is the norm, and the stretch is typical for a 5/8's oval. The real question is, why do they keep building 5/8's tracks when there isn't a single 5/8's track that has good handle?

Yes I think it's because 1/2 mile tracks are not popular with harness fans and mile tracks are more expensive to build so maybe they are choosing something in the middle. Just a guess on my part.

Generally speaking, the track size is dependent upon the acreage available on the grounds (That's what determined the perimeter of Hazel Park in 1950).

Considering Dayton was built as a racino, the track is secondary to their existence and/or customer market.

Thus, it's likely that the available acreage used for the racino is larger than than the acreage used for da horses.

Somewhere I've a reference that provides the minimum acreage required for various size tracks, however does not include the acreage required for additional buildings.

That is the excuse they use. The truth is that the horsemen don't want the 1/2 and the tracks don't want the expense of building a two turn track. So they split the difference and build a track the bettors don't want.

You are bang on Pandy. In this day and age why they would not build a mile track is beyond me. A mile track allows you to have races with more horses in it, different distance races, which will in the very least, give you a chance to increase the handle. If anybody knows what the handles have been at Dayton to date, please post them as I have been unable to find them anywhere.

Postime

I had to check out the difference in Dayton totals for Oct 3rd from what my ADW says to what the "Commission" reports.

177,213 vs 128,976

All mutuel pools sums up to 177,213
Somebody's sending in the wrong numbers, maybe they should "mete out penalties" to themselves.

That's quite a difference in total handle. Could be worth firing off an email to the Ohio racing commission to make sure they are aware of it. Was there not just a scandal where someone was caught pilfering funds from a track?

Pandy - I figured the 5/8 kept the three track circuit in place. Scioto has 10 and sometimes 11 horse fields (for hi 5) and a super stretch. I too like the mile racing and Scioto could be expanded. They have plenty of room. Understand a hotel on the grounds is in the works.
