Betting "fresh" horses in hot summer months

I have long held the (purely anecdotal) belief that horses returning off layoffs in the hot summer months are better betting value in general than horses who have been running through the heat without a break.

One trainer I knew sometimes kept a "reserve" of horses so when August rolled around, he would have fresh stock to pick up some purse $$$. It seemed to work.

I'm wondering if anyone out there has the database ability to calculate an ROI or win% for layoff horses, (30+day, 60+day, whatever) based on months of the year.

Thanks if you can help!
