Is nothing sacred? Was Norman Rockwell gay?

Someone trying to sell a few books?
Whatever Rockwell did in his spare time, thought about, did, believed in, said, whatever.....all that I care about is his art. Who it came from is irellavent.
Like actors in movies. My favorite actor is Morgan Freeman, but I could not care less about what he thinks, does, says, eats or whatever.....when he is Alex Cross, I like him. In the real world, he is nothing.

Sadly this is how you sell books today, by leaking a few salacious, controversial even speculative details well in advance just to get tongues wagging.

A biography of Rockwell may or may not sell. It success will have nothing to do with the author says he gay or not. Nobody cares anymore.

"Respected" biographers should either stick to the facts...or mix in their opinions without the legal safety net provided by a disclaimer.

If you are confident about the validity of what you say...then what do you need a disclaimer for?

And if you are NOT confident about the validity of your opinions...then why put them in print?

Great point. That should apply to alleged news outlets as well.

Utter nonsense, I've never seen a person as skilled at missing the point as you.

Did you read the comments of Rockwell's descendants? They seem to care.
And it wasn't only about possibly being gay, there were some ruminations about pedophilia tossed in for good measure.

The point that you missed is that this thread wouldn't exist and nobody would be talking about this book in the Times or USA Today or Entertainment weekly if they hadn't leaked those comments. That will translate into book sales in our tabloid culture. More people - whether they care or not - will now know that there is a new book out about Rockwell.

We see if it sells soon enough. I think the public isn't interested enough in Rockwell to buy a book and putting in something about him being gay won't help sales. Too many people have been outed that nobody is going buy a book just because it outs somebody famous. 20 years ago maybe but not now. At least I hope not. Are you going to buy it? Do you know someone who going to buy it? I am not and I don't know anybody who will. I am sure they leaked the comments to help sales, but I just don't think it will work.

Gay? Doubtful.

When I grew up it was wonderful to be gay.
Somehow homosexuals wrestled that term as their own and the media bought in.

I'm not sure what I'll do if it turns out Norman Rockwell was gay.

Life will never be the same.

I will still like his art. What he does in his own bedroom is none of my business and no one is going to make it my business.
THAT is the reason I would not buy the book.

Just curious, why would you say doubtful?
