SPECIAL NOTE: Rule #12 was ammended July 15th to reduce the Accuracy Bonus portion of the scoring.

Listed below are the contest rules for the Del Mar / Saratoga Modified ROI Challenge:

1. Subject contest will run from July 18th thru September 5th.

2. The winner will be the player who achieves the highest modified (or hybrid) ROI.

3. Selections can only be made on thoroughbred races at Del Mar and Saratoga racetracks. (No selections allowed on "jump" races).

4. To be eligible to begin posting selections, and for prizes and PACS award points at the conclusion of this contest, a player must meet ALL of the following participation requirements:

(a) After reading and understanding all of the contest rules, post in the affirmative in the "Poll Question" thread under the associated Del-Sar Contest forum area. Please make every attempt to do so prior to making your very first contest selection post.
(b) A minimum of 15 races at Del Mar racetrack.
(c) A minimum of 15 races at Saratoga racetrack.


These are minimum requirements, so a player may choose to play more than 15 races at each track.

5. A player may only play one betting entity each race. Alternate selections within the same posting are not allowed, however, players may submit new/changed selections in a new, separate posting.

6. A player is limited to a maximum of three total plays per day. Total plays = # of Del Mar plays + # of Saratoga plays.

7. Contest participation is allowed any day the Del Mar and/or Saratoga are running.

8. Posted selections need only contain the track name, race number, and the horse's saddlecloth number. The horse's name is optional but highly recommended, as it will take priority should the saddlecloth number and name not refer to the same horse. When an entry is involved, be sure to specify which half (or both) of the entries you are playing. When playing only one half of the entry and it scratches while the other half remains in as a live runner, contest scoring will be as follows:

(a) If the non-selected entry half finishes 3rd or better. you will receive credit as if you did select the horse.
(b) If the non-selected entry half finishes 4th or worse, your selection will be treated as a "no-play".

9. Selections must be made 1 minute prior to the race off time. They can be modified and/or deleted at any time provided they meet the aforementioned requirement. Selections which do not meet the above requirement will be scored as follows:
-- If the horse finishes 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, the selection will be scored as a "no-play", and the player is free to make another race selection.
-- If the horse finishes 4th or worse, the selection will be scored as a loss, as your selection intention was clear.

10. All selections will be for a $2 Win-Place-Show ticket (total = $6). VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Players are responsible for posting their selections under the correct daily thread. Selections not listed under the correct daily thread before the off time of the last available contest race will be invalid and not scored.

11. The following situations will be scored as "no-plays", and the player is free to make another race selection:
(a) Your race selection is scratched.
(b) Race is cancelled or determined to be "No Contest".
(c) Subject race does not offer Show and/or Place
wagering.
(d) Selection not under correct daily thread. (See rule 10
above.)

12. The ROI will be of the hybrid variety as it will include a bonus based on the finish position of your selection. Bonuses are as follows:
(a) Selection finishes 1st --> Bonus = $5
(b) Selection finishes 2nd --> Bonus = $2
(c) Selection finishes 3rd --> Bonus = $1
(d) Selection finishes 4th or worse --> No Bonus

13. Examples of hybrid ROI calculations:
--- Your selection finishes 1st and the $2 payouts are $8.00, $4.00, and $3.60. Your hybrid ROI for this race would be $15.60 (the sum of the payouts) + $5 bonus for winning = $20.60 divided by $6 bet = 3.433 hybrid ROI.
--- Your selection finishes 3rd and the $2 payout for show is $4.20. Your hybrid ROI for this race would be $4.20 + $1.00 bonus for finishing 3rd = $5.20 divided by $6 bet = 0.866.

Hybrid ROI's are of course cumulative and based on ALL of a player's races, so a participant with the above two selections would have a hybrid ROI of ($15.60 + $5.00 + $4.20 + $1.00) = $25.80 total returns including bonuses divided by total bets of $12 = 2.15.

14. A special Moderator Thread will be created for the purpose of communicating important announcements and comments to ALL the participants. Players are responsible for checking out this thread on a regular basis.

15. Good Sportsmanship will rule the day. Jay Trotter, Track Collector, and/or their designated representatives will be the final decision makers regarding any questions regarding rule interpretations and/or scoring.

Reason for the ammendment: With feedback from the players and further reflection by the organizers we realized that the original bonus weights of $12-$6-$4 were much too high and would have turned the contest into a "chalk" picking affair which was not our original intent.
