I put him on my horse in the Bold Rukus stakes and he had absolutely no idea on how to ride the turf course while strangle holding my front runner after we broke 2 lengths up on the field. He let the eventual winner Stuck in Traffic go out to an uncontested lead(23,46) and open up on the field in the final 100 yards. Ramsammy literally choked my horse to death while attempting to ride him. Just a very ignorant jockey who seemed very much out of it prior to getting on my horse! Another trainer from Woodbine told us he did the same thing to his filly last year and didnt even realize he did it. I spoke to him when he got off our horse and he said the horse didnt respond! How could he you held him so tight he couldnt breath. Anyone else use this knucklehead?

Sounds like you got a bum ride man. Up at Woodbine he is a notorius front running jock who "sends" his horses to the top.

To have your charge break clear on top and he hits the breaks in a stranglehold smells rotten.

Sounds like Kent Desormeaux to me! :jump:

I guess we will have someone post camera shots of the race declaring Ramsammy a great rider soon. :bang:

The jockey colony at Woodbine, RELATIVELY to one another, is much akin to the Southern California colony of years gone by: top to bottom competence.

A guy like Martin Rameriz: good journey man but doesn't get the mounts. GREAT on a live one.
Justin Stein: a Vancouver prodigy, he gets the job done.
top to bottom, even the girls there are very good.

DaSilva: really improved this season.

Gary Olguin: ex-Vancouver rider who is very good. He left here after his wife (another rider) died tragically on the course after bursting a kidney hitting the rail.
Anthony Stephens: has ridden all over the world and is great on longshots on the grass. He was wasted here on our oval.
Emil Ramsammy: good at any course he rides.

That horse did not figure in that race: nothing said turf about it. The winner went to the front and stayed there.

He finished a strong 2nd on the turf at Atlantic City. Was in the 12 hole and Pennington got pushed outside after a poor break came running on the rail for 2nd. Mt Livermore mares do well on the turf. He was strangle held after breaking 1.5 lengths on top he let stuck in traffic go out to an easy walk in the park, he confused the horse, not my type of rider.

The other trainer who told us his Ramsammy story felt the strangle hold took the steam out of my horse, if he lets D'wild affair go the winner and d'wild affair end up 6-7 lengths ahead of the rest of this field.

He held him when he broke on top thus letting the eventual winner go to an uncontested lead. The horse is fine, back in NJ on the dirt in 2 weeks.

So why did you put Ramsammy (a leading jock several times in Canada BTW) on your horse? Trainer recommendation (or, are you the trainer?) or what? In other words, somebody made a decision to use him so where's the accountability for that decision? If the ride was that bad, complain to the stewards....maybe you were "supposed" to lose!

Pretty interesting reply, yes we asked the stewards to review they did and had felt that the jock "took hold" of the horse to gain position. My regular NJ rider had a full card at MP and couldnt come up. Your comment on "maybe we were suppose to lose" is pretty stupid.

Woodbine sprints, particularly with the younger set are won early. This early/late balance graph shows where the early two were, by their inherent energy distributions. The three didn't have the profile for the distance.

My favourite turf jockeys at Woodbine are Chantal Sutherland, Patrick Husband, Jono Jones, and Emma Jayne Wilson. Montpellier used to be on that list but I think his age is starting to catch up with him just enough to make him average on the turf today.

You sure your not mixing up Gerry Olguin and Jorge Estrada? Estradas wife Lynn died in a fatal accident at Hastings. Gerry married ex rider Robyn Graboskie (sp?) and I believe they are both still a happy and active couple.

Checked with the track's announcer and you are correct. She bailed out on a horse blinded by a mud clod that bore in sharply to the rail and did not free herself from the stirrup. Hit the rail and burst a kidney. Poor thing was 19 years old.

Go with Chantal. She is the best or at least equal to the best on the EP Taylor grass course. Plus you get the bonus of looking at her up close before the race....if you are a guy that is.

First off, the quality of the image makes it pretty much unreadable. Second, even if it were readable, many folks haven't a clue what the heck the screen is trying to say.

Perhaps you should start a thread in the Handicapping section that actually EXPLAINS what it is on your screen and how you use it EFFECTIVELY in your handicapping. That would be a helpful, nice change of pace.

This is my list from last year (I've revised my thoughts a bit though):
WOODBINE

1. Patrick Husbands- He deservedly gets the top mounts. He owns the turf course too.
2. Emile Ramsammy- He has usurped Kabel as the jockey who can get a horse to the lead, who didn't necessarily look like the speed of the field, and then steal the race.
3. Chantal Sutherland- As predicted earlier by me (http://cangamble.blogspot.com/2007/03/cutest-female-jockey-of-all-time.html), her style is perfect for the Polytrack. And she is very good on the turf as well.
4. Emma Jayne Wilson- Moves a horse up. She takes a lot of obscure mounts though, which hurts her percentage.
5. Tyler Pizarro- The go to apprentice. Always a threat to hit the board. Gets live mounts especially with Rainford and Deverell on the shelf.
6. James McAlaney- Gets real good mounts. Rides sprint races (7 furlongs or less) better than routes.
7. Todd Kabel- Better when he is not on the figure horse for some reason. Looks like he is in semi-retirement these days. Still above average. Doesn't have as much of an edge on the Poly which is not kind to speed usually.
8. Martin Ramirez- Style is suited for the Polytrack. He just doesn't seem to get good mounts. Give him David Clark's mounts and he'd have 60 wins at Woodbine right now. Needs to relax when he is on a horse with a fringe chance. He is trying too hard on them out of the gate.
9. David Clark- Gets great steer jobs. Probably has the best agent at Woodbine. I don't think he moves a horse up though...but he is 50 plus. Might get a well earned vacation soon (http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/OtherSports/2007/06/21/4278684-sun.html).
10. Constant Montpellier- Better on the turf. Just a little better than average when he has the horse. Was better on the dirt track.
11.Garry Cruise- Does well on limited live mounts.
12.Jono Jones- Better on the turf. Just a passenger on the dirt.
13.Justin Stein- Could easily be in the top 8 with a little more experience.
14.Eurica Rosa Da Silva- Doesn't move a horse up, but doesn't move one down either. Too aggresive a style for the Poly.
15.Corey Fraser- Could make better decisions during the race. Needs to get Tiller's confidence back.
16.Slade Callaghan- Average jockey who doesn't get many live mounts.
17.Jerry Olguin- Not overly confident when he is on a selection, which is a rare event.
18.Richard Dos Ramos- Rides like he is trying to get third but will take the win. Another jockey who should thank his agent, oh and Attfield.
19.Jerry Baird- Having a better than average year so far. It is early still. Knows where the rail is, which is a plus on the Poly, usually.
20.Steven Bahen- Pretty much a passenger.
21.Ray Sabourin- Doesn't get many mounts these days. His better days are behind him.
22.Robert Landry- Gets some OK mounts, but doesn't move them up at all.
23.Dino Luciani- Isn't riding much anymore. Not sure if it is his choice or the choice of trainers. He is very good when given a good horse on the lawn.
24.Jack Lauzon- OK going short. Kinghaven days are way way gone.
25.Stephanie Fedora- When she is on a figure horse, she isn't all that bad.
26.Catherine O'Brien- Improving a bit. Still a shaky bet. Gets better mounts than Fedora so far.
27.Na Somsanith- Can't remember the last time he was on a real live one.
28.Matt Moore- Take away Arden Belle and what do you have? Too one dimensional.
29.David Garcia- Below average so far.
30.Rui Pimental- Not sure if he is a Woodbine, Fort Erie, or a Kingston jockey (http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/horse/news/story?id=2786929).
31.Julia Brimo- Probably should move her tack to the Fort.
32.Simon Husbands- What I said about his brother, only the opposite.
33.Anthony Stephen- Not liking him at all yet.
34.Shane Ellis- If he is one of your top selections, sit out the race.
************************************
Da Silva has moved way up on my scale, so has O'Brien, while Ramirez has moved down. Kabel hasn't ridden this year (I don't know the real reason).

Says right across the top Match Up showing computed beaten lengths. ANYONE who understands pace should understand that.

The second is balance of energy distribution: more subtle, but anyone familiar with Sartin would know that.
