I meant to talk to you about this! Not bad? When you came two years ago, you came the last 4 days of the meet. You'll be there Travers Week this year. Different ball game.

I'll explain:

Saratoga seats 18,000. When you put 40,000 a weekday, and 50 & 70 thousand Travers weekend, people are in the trees! People sit in the walkway's on thier coolers.

We sit there, 30 yards from the Paddock, We have a litte buffet going, Beer and Soda on Ice, with fans on us, Laptop's everywhere. We're royalty. Travers weekend , the little plastic chain around the tent is like the GREAT WALL OF CHINA!

We take the Tent over. Ticket Girl? Yea ok, he's with me...thanks. :lol: You know what I mean? We turn the TV's our way, we move our table's together, we rig up the Power (exstention chords and what not). We invite pretty girls in. Oh yeah... We roll! We live like Red State Republicans for a week. We live good. Meanwhile the peasants drool at our comfort beyond the Plastic Chain!

Plus Craig! We're walking there.. ;) :D . We're living right on top of it. We have a LAWN JOCKEY! on the front lawn of our crib! We're strolling down the street to "our tent"!

Great anchor spot to! We get around for sure. But when you have the steady spot...it's pure gold. People come by! A fair amount people come by that just read the board... You'd be surprised. I've probably met 6 or 10 people that never post. Even with the people you plan on meeting, some come 2 days, some 1, some 5. So your same spot makes it all work.

I'm thinking a couple of guys will come by specifically to see you? Your talent has won you a following. I'd be surprised if one or two of your guys did'nt just pop in to say hello. But also writers and other guys come by. Some of the Closer Look writers come by, Seth Morrow from Equidaily stops in, TLG is invited again this year, to stop by and play a couple of races with us. Steve who writes the DERBY TRAIL will be by and He has a concession there , and invited us over for lunch one day. Nice guy, Other people...all kinds.

Plus, the juice I bring to the extracircular activities at the track.

I agree with Suff !! Its a great spot. Travers Day was hot , crowded , but we were Kings under the tent !!! Living in total comfort, and when the Thunder Storm erupted after the Travers we were in the best spot in the house, ERRRRRRRR, well at least most of us :lol:

Saratoga is the place. Taking nothing away from other meets, or events,
Keeneland has its Purses, & great races. Breeders Cup is Breeders cup, Triple Crown is Triple crown & Del-Mar is Del-mar. Saratoga is the All-Star game. No getting around that. It is the Premier meet in America, perhaps the world. There is a three day period when we are there, when they rattle off 11 graded races, including 7 Grade 1's.

We'll have a great time and put a nice chapter in our book of life. :ThmbUp:

Here's a story.
Two years ago, my first trip, Tom and Dave S. decide to go to the grandstand for a bowl of chowder. I'm not in-the-know about this but I want to get the full Toga experience so I tag along while they chit chat about this and that. The chowder place is on the far side of the grandstand so you can look out a big door and see the apron and the outside rail etc. Tom looks out and says "Wow. They got live racing here?". Cracked me up.
The chowder was good too.

I'm starting to squirrel away things for our Toga time...computer paper, ink, stapler, the heavy duty power strip Bill and I bought last year, stuff to keep the binocs clean, going to bring lots of paper gatorade and NCAA cups for the tent, digital camera to catch Bubbles when he hits the BIG ONE this year :eek: ...Suff you still have the Gatorade ice chest???? or should I borrow another from St Johns for the week? We got some nice large ones like you see on the NFL sidelines...anything else you guys can think of for the tent..let me know.

PS: I'll bring plenty of ADVIL for Mike after his late night escapades with the honeys ;) CJ..you get any deals on GOOD cigars there in the PX in Belgium? :cool:

Thank you. I'm looking forward to seeing you again. Your part of the Baltimore contigent. We've got Texan's, Californian's , Canadiens, Pennyslvannian's coming. My role is overstated. A lot of guys stepped up with a few bucks in March to get the house. I did'nt have 2500 I could live without for 5 months. BIllW picks up the Seats.

That brings up the issue of when peope stop in. If You eat a sandwich, and have a few beers, especially if someone is with you, put $20.00 aside for BillW. At the end we sort of tally up a few things, and whoever is the wholest grabs a chunk of the nut. We don't ask people for money... If you don't have it , no problem, but if your flush, kick in. That's a little of how we do this.

We stretch very little into a lot. Everybody pitchs in. I'm just the HUB. It's the Paceadvantage Saratoga Getaway. There's some really nice people here. Amongst the freaks , there are some intelligent, accomplished, regular guys. Each one is insane in his own way, because they're Horse Junkies. :cool: :ThmbUp:

Thats fine... A better idea. Especially Travers week. another thing... Whispering Pines was great... But cooking anything beyond a cup of coffee was impossibe. I understand Jack K is going to handle cooking for us one or two nights. I predict we will have a BUFFET FIT FOR A KING! at the race Track everyday. Honestly...we're gonna live!

Saratoga Race Course will open for its 137th meeting on Wednesday, July 27. The 36-day meet will run through Labor Day, Monday, September 5th. No racing on Tuesdays.

WHERE: Saratoga Race Course, Union Avenue, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

FIRST RACE POST TIME: 1 p.m. Eastern. On Travers Day, Saturday, August 27th, first race post is 12:30 p.m. Eastern.

ADMISSION: General admission is $3; Clubhouse admission is $5. Children 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult." Season passes available for $35 grandstand and $75 clubhouse". Admission gates open at 11 a.m. on weekdays and 10:30 a.m. on weekends. On Travers Day, Saturday, August 27th, gates open at 7 a.m. Travers Day admission is $5 general admission; $10 for clubhouse.

PARKING: Trackside parking is $10 and general parking is free. Handicapped parking is available at the Clubhouse and Grandstand. Parking gates open at 7 a.m. on Travers Day, Saturday, August 27th. NO PARKING REFUNDS ON TRAVERS DAY, August 27th. There is also Preferred Parking for $5 on the corner of East Avenue and Union Avenue (not trackside).

COOLERS: Coolers are permitted at Saratoga Race Course in the backyard area ONLY. No coolers will be allowed in the buildings. All coolers and any carry-in items are subject to inspection. No glass containers are permitted.

RESERVED SEATS: Reserved seats in the Clubhouse are $9 and $12 and in the Grandstand, $6 and $7, however, prices will increase on weekends and Travers Day. A limited number of Grandstand seats are on sale each morning of a race day at the Reserved Seats Office at Union Avenue Gate at 8 a.m. (7 a.m. on Travers Day, Saturday, August 27th). These are limited to four per person on a cash-only basis. Tickets are also available at the Holiday Inn, Broadway and Circular Street, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. beginning at 6 p.m. the evening before each racing day. GROUP ACCOMMODATIONS: Special rates on dining packages of groups of 20 or more. BREAKFAST AT SARATOGA: A long-standing tradition is to watch the morning workouts at Saratoga. A buffet breakfast is served daily from 7 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Admission to the breakfast is free, except on Travers Day, and vehicles leaving the grounds before 10 a.m. get a parking refund. Morning visitors may also take a free tram tour of the Backstretch Area and watch the Paddock Show and Starting Gate Demonstration. * National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Monday, August 8th: Induction ceremony is at 10:30 a.m. at the Humphrey S. Finney Pavilion on East Avenue. The public is invited and admission is free as the Hall welcomes trainers Nick Zito, Sidney Watters Jr., steeplechase jockey Tommy Walsh and five-time champion steeplechaser Lonesome Glory. Later, fans can meet some of the veteran members of the Hall near the Big Red Spring at Saratoga Race Course throughout the afternoon.

* Alabama Day and Chili Cookoff, Saturday, August 20th: One of the meet's more popular days features the Grade 1, $750,000 Alabama for three-year-old fillies at a mile and a quarter. Also on the card is the $65,000-added Troy for older horses at a mile on the turf. Taste, compare and judge chili from some of the top chefs anywhere.

* 10th Annual Travers Festival, Saturday August 20th – Sunday, August 28th: More than 40 fun-filled, charity-oriented events are planned at Saratoga Race Course and throughout the Capital District, including street festivals, live music, arts and crafts shows, golf tournaments, contests, galas and more. * MAIN TRACK: 1 1/8-mile oval with seven-furlong chute; 4 percent banking on the turns; distance from final turn to the finish line is 1,144 feet.
* TURF COURSES: The Mellon (Outer) Turf Course is a one-mile (plus 98 feet) oval; 4 percent banking on the turns; distance from final turn to the finish line is 1,144 feet; The Inner Turf Course is a seven-furlong (plus 304 feet) oval; 4 percent banking on the turns; distance from final turn to finish is 1,164 feet.
* OKLAHOMA TRAINING TRACK: One-mile oval with a quarter-mile chute; 2 percent banking on the turns; distance from final turn to the finish line is 990 feet.
* OKLAHOMA TURF COURSE: Seven-furlong oval; 2 percent banking on the turns; distance from final turn to the finish line is 1,024 feet.
* OKLAHOMA STEEPLECHASE COURSE: Six-furlong oval, five fences.
