More shades of socialism. Ultimately your average "Joe" consumer/taxpayer foots the cost. If people can afford children and want them they should by all means have them. If they want a whole lot of extras they should cover that themselves also. Maybe there wouldn't be so many unwanted kids that end up cluttering the prison system, many killing others in the process.

Why is it that so many benefits are given to people for having kids? I didn't realize that we're on the verge of extinction, or that making babies was too difficult of a task.

If you want to have kids, fine, but pay for them yourselves. We already pay tremendous amounts to send them to school. And don't argue that we all should be happy to educate the next generations for the sake of the country. Have you seen this generation? Good Lord, could they be more useless?
