I looked over Epicharis who has 50 points from a win in Japan toward our Derby.

Interestingly, his second damsire, Maruzensky, is a maternal grandson of Buckpasser who was undefeated in 8 starts.

Per Horseracingnation.com before the Hyacinth
"according to Daily Sports Online, Epicharis owner Katsumi Yoshida has indicated plans to take Epicharis from the Hyacinth Stakes to the UAE Derby and then onto the Belmont Stakes. Should Epicharis win, and Yoshida declines the spot, the ticket goes to the second qualifier which would be Mont Saint Legame, regardless of finishing position, with the 40 points earned from the Cattleya Sho."
Can not find any more news regarding owners decision after the race. After the Hyacinth, I felt that a possible Triple Crown winner would have serious doubts if this guy trains on.
Looking back further in the pedigree, this guy is tail female to Fairy Gold. She is dam of Fair Play who sired Man O War. Then the line landed in the hands of one of the finest breeders ever Marcel Boussac. Look at the pattern he made with 5th dam Corandia (http://www.pedigreequery.com/corandia)
Epicharis (http://www.pedigreequery.com/epicharis3) has the great relationship "nick" of Nureyev and Sadler's Wells for stamina by doubling Special. Broodmare sire Carnegie Won the Arc.Gold Allure his sire won the Japan Derby and grandsire Sunday Silence won the KY Derby.
This is a rock solid pedigree and gets my rating for best so far in a 3yo this year. Hoping things might change, but if you see any news. Good call
