Does anybody know of a site that allows conditional PLACE wagers?

Can't be positive but I think AM West does.

They do, but to clarify (depending on what you were asking) the condition is based on the posted odds, not what the PLACE wager would pay.

You are correct

AmWest does but it is based on the WIN odds of the horse. Still, useful though if you want to only bet to place if the odds are high enough to warrant the place bet. Once in a while you may get screwed if the place was overbet, but this works out pretty well overall (I find)

I agree with JD. I have a couple of races a day that I identify as reasonable wagers for WIN, PLACE, or SHOW depending on the odds. I use different odds ranges for each of these and upload them in the morning.

From their documentation, I believe we can also make a bet conditioned on a different horse. I have not tried it, but here is an example of a wager I uploaded today:GP41832Race(7),9999,20140712,USA,GP,M,WIN,,7 ,4,USD,4,4 WP 4 WP,MTP|WIN|ODDS,0|4|>1.8;<10
GP41832Race(7),9999,20140712,USA,GP,M,PLC,,7,4,USD ,10,4 WP 4 WP,MTP|WIN|ODDS,0|4|>2.8;<14The first line is saying to put a WIN bet in the 7th race on the :4: horse for $4 (in bold) if the posted odds are better than 1.8 (i.e. 4/5) which would be even money or better and if they are less than 10 (i.e. 9/1) which would make this wager be placed if the odds are 1/1 to 8/1. The second line similarly specifies that the odds be between 2.8 and 14 (i.e 2/1 through 12/1) for the PLACE bet. Both of these evaluate the odds at a post time. The second bolded "4" on each is the horse on which to base the odds. Note that this is the same as the one I am playing.

However, one of the examples in their documentation shows this:mybet001,joebloggs,20101216,USA,AQ,D,WIN,,2,1 ,USD,1,my comments,MTP|WIN|ODDS,5|1|>20;<40I interpret this as saying bet $1 to WIN on the :1: horse in the second race and base this wager on the odds of the :5: horse at 5 minutes to post time.

Thus, if I am interpreting this correctly, the conditional wager could be set up to have a PLACE bet on your horse as long as the posted odds for some other horse in the race has not fallen below a certain amount.

I have tried to keep my conditional wagers on the simpler side, because those are complex enough for me and the documentation they provide is a bit sketchy. However, it looks fairly powerful.

However, it looks fairly powerful.Obviously I misread the second 5 in reviewing this. The second item is actually using the :1: horse for the odds and the "5" represents 5 MTP. However, I see no reason why the second :1: could not be another horse. Sorry for the confusion. It was too late to edit the post to fix it.

I may experiment with this a bit to see if I can place wagers when the ML favorite is not bet down significantly....though I generally adjust the ML odds for scratches first, so it will be a bit tough to wager too far in advance. Let me think about this a bit more.
