I used to have an account with them years ago and I remember paying like 25cents per wager, Why would anyone pay fees when twinspires is free? Also I'm a poker player and other sites offer horse racing with 3 percent cash back.

TVG nickeled and dimed their way out of my business.
Haven't played a cent with them in years, and don't intend to.

Actually, I never deposited anything with them.
Won a couple hundred in a free contest that they deposited for me.
Wound up blowing it, and vowed not to come back.

Certainly a $2.00 bettor should NEVER use TVG. People on this board complain (and rightly so) about the high take out rates by the tracks. This in essence is an additional 12.5% takeout. A $2.00 bet (with a .25 wager surcharge) would have to have a 12.5% ROI just to break even.

Most horse players would be ecstatic if they had a ROI this high. Now granted most serious bettors would be betting a larger amount than $2.00, but why pay a fee to bet, when all other services don't and many services offer rebates.

TVG simply will not survive.

But somehow tvg is getting along just fine, are there that many people out there that don't know other better wagering sites?

Besides that, some of us have no alternative other than TVG ( I live in NJ)

Certainly obvious that TVG could care less about the $2.00 player.

I opened up a Tvg account back when just so I could play Japan. TS and xpressbet have since taken Japan but a couple a weeks ago Tvg had an exclusive card from Japan.

What would happen if a U.S. citizen opens an account at an offshore site like
5Dimes - great rebates ? Go to jail ? Pay a fine ? What ?

How could anyone be so stupid/desperate to pay TVG to make a bet ?
Even if they pay 8% simulcast fees they must be making a fortune. They're just as bad as Canadian banks ......

Nothing will happen, unless the book goes out of business then you will have a 98% chance of losing all the money that you have in your account.

Their sponsors must be what's keeping their heads above water. How much longer will that last?

Don't they get access to the TVG announcers 'secret picks' that don't make the show?

They probably have a large client list of people that have been with them for years, when they were one of the first.

They may have many people still calling in bets on 800 numbers. We do not know what else is involved with their business.

Off-shore accounts usually have limits on pay-offs and frequently are more difficult getting money into and out of (they are probably breaking some UIGEA law). And as others have said, when they close up shop, they are gone.

That all said, I would not pay 25cents to make a bet.

What do the guys in NY pay at their OTB sites? is it 10% of pay-off?

If you can't bet with a legal ADW that offers rebates (ie. Premier Turf Club) then why bet the horses at all especially if you have to pay (fees /withholding taxes etc..). Better off to play the stock market - commissions are negligible now.......

Exactly right. This is 2013, Rebate or Nothing... unless you're strictly a $2 bettor. Anyone who bets more than $2 at TVG, well, that's the "Bozo Bet" for lack of a better term.

TVG just added a new feature today to allow 4 video streams at once with better quality than previously. They announced recently they were doing away with wagering fees and everyone thought "finally, how nice."

They neglected to announce they would be charging (I am forced to use 4NJBETS.TVG) for video starting today. What a rip.

I guess that's how'll they'll make up for the lost wager fee revenue partly from NJ residents. Someone here had mentioned recently that NJ residents would never be charged a fee for wagers or live video. I hope that is still true even though the web site describes the video fees as of today.

Previously it was $5 a month for unlimited video, even if you did not bet. Now it's $3 per 10 hours of video if you do not bet there. For every $25 bet there, they give you an hour, up to a total of 10. They were the sharpest video for me but I will use Twin Spires now instead. Given cable modem speeds, this (video quality) is an area the adw's could improve on.

I just noticed that this weekend. 10 hours a month ain't much even for a weekend warrior.
I guess the NYRA feed is essential as you can't get it elsewhere, audio only at NYRA.com.
Calracing is a great place for SA and GG, no charge at this time.

Update for NJ TVG users: No fees for NJ residents for video, although I have had some choppy live streams and replays intermittently a few times since April 9 when they switched over.

I stand corrected on my last post about no video fees for TVG. My video hours ran out and I called TVG and had a lengthy conversation with a manager. To keep a long story short, there IS certainly a $3 fee for a video pass. She said that everyone I spoke to (including managers at the Meadowlands and Favorites in Woodbridge) was wrong. I told her I confirmed with a TVG rep last week via phone who assured me there would never be a video fee for NJ residents and she said even he was wrong.

I explained she needs to update their call center reps about this error and she said she'll send an e-mail to all involved that there are fees for NJ residents. I also mentiomned that since April 9, some videos were choppy and slow since they moved from WMP to Flash. She said that's just the way it is done to save bandwidth.

NJ residents have no choice but to use them. What a gyp.

If she's the manager, it's possible that she is the one that's wrong.

Totally agree. I am still checking on this and will provide an update. Any one else in NJ know about the 'official' video fees?

I did encounter a message that I had 10 free hours of video per month. Like I said earlier that is not much even for a weekend warrior/occasional nighttime player.
I guess I'll have to stop/start and use other sites like calracing.com.

Why would anyone have payed a fee to wager with a site, when they can actually get cash back through a U.S.-licensed ADW like BetPTC.com?

Test drive us over the next week and a half, and not only get cash back on every bet but also a sweet signup bonus.

When you start taking residents from VA , let me know. Until then, you have the answer to your question.

Jim,
As you know that can be out of our control. We would love to accept residents from all 50 states and Canada, but unfortunately that is not reality.

You can add another little state to that, .... California !!
