My 4th Favorite track behind EMD, NYRA and Portland is off and running.
Question: Why are they advertising Derby Wars contests? Are they getting a cut? Or hoping any one who plays them on Derby Wars will ALSO make a pari mutuel wager?

I don't know but you get damn close if you make 4-1 into 4-5.
Problem is while I'm no Sam aficionado, I don't see how that horse would get an odds-on line.

Sam aficionado ...
It's the norm over there. It they had the Derby, with 20 horses, all 20 horses would be 40/1, 50/1 or 99/1 .
I think the janitor does the ML

Got quite a unique individual making the M/L at Sam Houston......Hard to recall anyone making a horse 7-1 or 9-1 in numerous races today.

had a $2 straight P3 Races 4-6 8-3-6. How that 6 faltered???? He was ready to go and died. I cant play that track.
also tried early P3 does Broberg ever win a race there? I get the feeling his horses are overmatched.
years ago Asmussen was gold there, now he sends junk.
Broberg? cant stand those type guys. 99% ITM for the year until you bet him He's 0-6 at SAM so far

I am pretty sure he or they have been doing this for a long time. I do not recall seeing this elsewhere either.

The late great Jim L. "Red" Davis used to throw down the 7-1 M/L once in a while. And when he did you drew a circle around the horse.

Broberg won the 1st race of the meet with a PLODDER that showed new speed and wired at 5F. I'm confused.

I used to live at Sam Houston Track. good southern food dining. 30 min drive from downtown. Martha still looks the same.

It's hard to make a line when you have the slowest horses in the South shipping in to make a racecard.
With that being said, they have a nice track, big crowds, great grandstand and facilities. Everything about this track is first class except for the racing stock.
