California..Who are the CTHA?

There is a tug of war going on in California as to who should represent the Horsemen. Currently the Thoroughbred Owners of California (TOC) represent the horsemen but the California Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association (CTHA) is in process of challenging the TOC for that right.

This is being posted in the interest of information only and does not represent any endorsement of either organization... Horse Players have no vote on this matter but we have to live with the contracts and policies that the horsemens representatives agree to, but I thought you would like some information on who the CTHA is and what there immediate platform goals are...most of us know what the TOC is about.

Be sure to read CTHA's immediate goals and I think you will find # 3 and #4 of interest...and if the video does not come up, go to the website link below.

I am informed that the CTHA has not started the main effort yet to decertify the TOC.

CTHA»California Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association

Working Together for California Thoroughbred Racing

Bringing Horsemen Together

In 30 states every recognized Thoroughbred horsemen's organization is composed of Owners and Trainers.

Only in California are the Thoroughbred horsemen divided into two groups, Owners and Trainers.

The TOC is the only recognized representative of horsemen in the U.S. that discriminates against Owners who also have a Trainer's license and it is the only recognized representative of horsemen in California that discriminates against Trainers.

The California Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association will end the division, stop the waste, and bring horsemen together to work for better purses and a brighter racing future.

The CTHA invites all Thoroughbred horsemen to join in bringing the best and brightest minds together to solve racing's big problems.

Together we will lead the way.

You Can Make a Difference.

The CTHA has filed a Notice of Intent to Decertify the Thoroughbred Owners of California (TOC).
If you believe you have no right to choose how you're represented then stick with the TOC.
If you are pleased with the path California horse racing is on, then read no further.
But if you believe that we can work together, If you believe we have a right to choose, then please download the Petition and add your name to the list of horsemen who believe that we can make a difference.
Print the petition, fill it in and mail or fax.

CTHA's IMMEDIATE GOALS

■End TOC's discrimination against horsemen.
■Set minimum percentages to purses from ADW, Rebaters, and all out of state sources.
■Support, respect and listen to our customers, the horseplayers.
■Increase purses through informed decisions, such as optimizing takeout and allowing wagering flexibility.
■Strengthen Northern California racing.
■Encourage realistic medication policies with appropriate sanctions against wrongdoers.
■Maintain offsite stabling and vanning through intelligent use of resources.
■Begin working closely with national horsemen's groups.
■Minimize costs through cooperative purchasing of insurance, feed, veterinary care, farrier services, etc.

CTHA at least knows the phrases that sound supportive of bettors. But I won't believe a word of what they claim until they're in the drivers' seat and ACTIVELY working to optimize takeouts and punish cheaters.

On the other hand ... they can't be any worse than the TOC morons who have so ruinously damaged the California racing product.

My guess is that, from the bettors' perspective, there's little real difference between them.

For your information I received this via e-mail today. It looks like things are heating up:

Quote:
2011 TOC Election Cancelled

The TOC has called off the 2011 election for six open seats on the TOC Board of Directors. Instead, the TOC Board filled those open seats with members they had recently appointed to the TOC board or with TOC Directors whose terms have expired.

Would you believe that from the TOC's 8,000 members they could only find six people to run for the six open seats and that coincidentally all six were already members of the TOC Board?

To a large part, the TOC Board reappointed itself. They have given up any pretense of reaching out to the membership. Rather than encouraging participation, the TOC Board has used the nominating process to keep the same elite group in control. So much for promises of new blood!

Is it any wonder that most owners have given up on the TOC?

Please visit www.calhorsemen.org and read why hundreds of horsemen are joining the effort to bring real leadership to California Thoroughbred racing. Or if you have already read enough, download a copy of the petition to decertify right now and make sure your voice is heard.
