Rich Bauer, RIP
I'm sad to report that Rich has passed away. A long time poster here on paceadvantage, he was a gem of a guy and one hell of a horseplayer. His untiring efforts to improve the game he loved so much should serve as a model for all of us. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Rest well, Rich.

I am so sorry. I never met him, but he seemed like a tireless champion for this sport, one who loved this game so. Rest, Rich.

Richard was a true horseplayer. I am truly saddened to hear of his passing.

This is indeed very sad news. Rich has been a fixture here on PaceAdvantage from the beginning (posted as rrbauer). Always a very generous person, and always fighting the good fight for horseplayers.
I think we all remember his highly effective Boycott Magna campaign. He took the website down after it was no longer necessary, but for those who want to reminisce, you can find some of it here:
http://web.archive.org/web/*sa_/http...ycottmagna.com
The racing industry took notice and one man proved he could make a difference:

Rich knew exactly what it took to make the powers that be stand up and take notice. What a void his passing leaves in this regard. HANA could use a lot more guys like Rich Bauer on their side. We all could.
I'm going to miss seeing Rich at Saratoga, drinking a beer with him, and doping out the next winner. He knew his stuff inside and out.
I'm really very saddened and stunned by this news. God Bless Rich Bauer and God Bless his family and friends.
Rest in Peace.

I only talked to Richard on the phone. He gave valuable advice to me during the startup of HANA. He was a mover and shaker and will be greatly missed.

I too am very saddened by the news. I really liked Rich. He loved going to Tampa in January, and when we discussed you could see his excitement in his words. It's a true shame he will not make the trip this year.
Rest in Peace Rich.

It is unfortunate Rich didn't live to see the day breakage is eliminated. Mind you, the way racing does things, perhaps none of us on this board will see that day. But I do think it will come.
I do think he made a difference in giving horseplayers a voice.
Without his achievements in putting Horseplayers on the map, HANA would most likely never have formed. He showed what one person can do.

Fellow Capper
Even though we all don't always agree there is a certain bond we all have as horse players and participants on this board, and Mr. Bauer will certainly be missed.
