Whobet - New Idea - Get the Race tracks to become a Hana member

Then you can do stuff to compete one track against another,

get them to become a hana memberTrack.

then email that contact with what ever you are trying to get the tracks to do.

That's an interesting idea that could use some more analysis.

I thought of that a while back and decided it was a bad idea. GameTheory can tell ya why. Not because I told him why I thought it was a bad idea, but because he is smart enough to know why and I'm too tired to spell it out

Bad idea?

Because they are still not under HANA control, just acting like they like some ideas.
IMO a better idea is to find some small track that sells voting stock and buy the majority ownership, or at least a good sized minor ownership.

If HANA grew to the size it could afford to buy >51% of a small track it could be used to demonstrate everything.

That would be a long long way out though. Not just the money but the logistics.

One key to a tracks survival is the cooperation of the rest of the industry. When Keeneland lowered their takeout on exotics in 2001 from 19% to 16% they were boycotted by the mid-Atlantic tracks (the "MidAtlantic Cooperative") and consequently lost 17% of their handle.

If this were to happen today would HANA call for a Boycott of "MidAtlantic Cooperative"?

It would be interesting to see how something like this would play today.

The idea would be to spread your signal across the world. Make it so its a no brainer for bettors to play YOUR track. There ARE small tracks out there that manage a profit on live racing. They are few, but they exist.

Someone MUST buck the industry to change this. Who else will?

There are several private individuals that are looking to buy tracks right at this moment. HANA needs to approach each of them and have a discussion. If any are swayed to HANA and then do own a track well.. It could become a watershed moment.

I wasn't talking about buying tracks,

I was talking about getting the tracks to recognize the power of HANA,

which is the power of orginizing the bettors.

Only HANA is is trying to organize the bettors,

but not doing a very good job,

get the tracks, maybe only 1 track at a time) to recognize HANA,

that HANA has power and HANA needs to be listened to,

HANA has a lot of work to do to get to that level.

Has HANA sent a communication to all tracks,

stating the members/resources it is represnting,
and asking for recognition over some small item(just to start)
big items can come later.

There is no reason for any racetrack to do that. The racetracks are a united front, that is the power. The only way that HANA could get any power is by supplying to the bettors something they actually want/need, just like the tracks do.

Don't racetracks compete against each other daily? Look at stakes schedules. One of the reasons for small fields is there are so many options for connections. Isn't that competition?
