Only At Turf Paradise
Two, not just one, but two maiden 10 year olds are starting today.
One in the first race (Mivtzar). And then in the 7th, Cruisin Memo.
And both are just making their second lifetime starts.
Things that make you say WTF.

Some horses just mature at different rates, you don't want to make the mistake of rushing them, it could shorten their careers.

That Memo runner was 5-1 in his first start...He'll be 30-1 or higher in this one. He's carrying 8 pounds less..You should throw a couple bucks on him..If he wins..When will you ever get to say. I just won a bet on a 10 year old mdn.

When Canterbury first opened, if you were still a maiden at 5 you had to run against winners.

For the longest time you couldn't run a 5 year old maiden in Ontario. I'm not sure when they were allowed ( I think Fort Erie allowed them first), because time flies once you hit 33.

back in the mid 90's (?) one of those Jersey tracks (garden state?) had a Mad finnally win after 85/86 races.
the owner just loved the horse.

That used to be a common rule among many tracks.
Lots of tracks still say on their stall applications that 5 year old maidens or older will not be allotted stalls.
