Sildenafil Citrate
Do they test for this in most tracks in North America?
For those who don't know, it is the main ingredient in Viagra.
"Professional sports players have been using drugs such as Viagra thinking that the opening of their blood vessels will enrich their muscles, therefore enhancing their performance"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viagra
I noticed cases where the drug was seized:
http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/HorseRacin...49477-sun.html
I also found that recently there was a suspension in Iowa (Prairie Meadows):
http://grg51.typepad.com/steroid_nat...e-meadows.html
and in Macau, a trainer was given a harsh sentence (the way it should be) after two horses tested positive for sildenafil:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/othe...ng/3067575.stm
The reason I'm bringing this up is that I'm pretty convinced that there are some popular undetectable drugs being used right now. Not only do they enhance the performance of horses, I think the enhancement doesn't last long and these types of drugs have a very negative affect on horses long term (much like EPO, DPO).

Viagara is tested for in New York State at both the thoroughbred and the harness tracks. There were some sildenifil (viagara) positives in the early 2000's that were prosecuted in N.Y.

I'm suspicious of the drug because in Ontario the only thing I found was that it showed up in a drug bust. And the person busted was definitely supplying to horsemen.
Where are all the positives?

My guess is that a lot of tracks don’t test for a lot of things. I recall reading a thing about the Preakness where they said that they tested for about twice as much stuff as they normally would. That pretty much says it all.

Don't horses incur side effects ??
In the two times that I've tried Viagara, I got a vicious headache both times. Heart rate increased. Got flush. That was enough.
Wouldn't horses incur side effects as well? You know, horses CAN and DO get headaches. And a drug wouldn't be the only cause.

It may be hard on the horses, but it sure does lead to some stiff competition.
