Keely Smith Passes

I discovered Louis Prima via the great Big Band scare of the 1990’s (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Brian Setzer, etc.) and always loved the dynamic between the overwrought Louis Prima and subdued Keely Smith.

They were a huge lounge act in Vegas before and during the rat pack era. Just heard she had passed away last weekend.

Thanks for posting, ___________. I twice saw Keely perform at Michael's on the upper east side in Manhattan. Took my wife two years straight; Keely played there around the time of our anniversary.

Below is one of my many favorite songs sung by Keely, written by hubby Louis Prima when he played for the Benny Goodman Band.

Sing Sing Sing was made famous by Gene Krupa's seminal drum solo that highlighted the historic Carnegie Hall concert that made big band music the sound of an era and a generation.

RIP, dear sweet Keely.
