battle of midway..sold, sold, sold
if you haven't heard already battle of midway was sold to winstar farms and don alberto. yes,...don alberto the same outfit that owned reach the world.
when seeing this i wonder how much money it would take to buy a horse of this stature entering the KD. the horse cost almost 500k as a yearling
obv the figure wasn't published but you have to believe it was an obscene amount.
would anybody have a clue outside of a guess how much?
imo this has to be at least a 3 to 5 million purchase. you can't even rule out more.

i wouldn't say he doesn't have a chance. the horse has plenty of positives to build on and his racing style should keep him close and/or in position.
as for the amount paid. i wish we could get a definitive number. but i honestly think it has to be at least a 5 million dollar purchase. 2 million would surely be laughed out, and 3 seems a little low.

Should've waited until after the Derby, the price would probably have been lower. You have to think getting him into the breeding shed is the priority now.

doesn't seem like the purchase was made to hob knob at the derby. and breeding obv will come into play. doesn't winstar sell more than buy? you know don alberto has a roll to overpay just to continue their foot hole in america.
this is a major buy

The dosage line is downright filthy. This guy might be a nice Belmont play.
DP = 10-14-17-2-1 (44) DI = 2.83

The purchase of Battle of Midway almost certainly had everything to do with his status for the Kentucky Derby.
Both Winstar (American Anthem, Hedge Fund, One Liner) and Don Alberto (Reach the World, Unique Bella) were going to be shutout from the race unless they made a private purchase.
I think colts like Battle of Midway and Iliad fit with the best of the crop talent wise, but at this stage are at a huge disadvantage on seasoning. Additionally, the stress of going from sprint races to the Santa Anita Derby and beyond in such a short time frame means the connections are risking the overall shelf-life of these horses in the long run. Reach The World, who debuted in January, was in the same boat.

It wouldn't be the first time a horse was bought just before the Derby and won it.

Wait a second I thought we were all in agreement that the Santa Anita Derby was a dumpster fire. 5 horses with in 2 lengths usually indicates they all suck.
