Sergio wins The Masters

Surprised there's no thread about this already...wins his 1st major in his 74th attempt. Had 22 top ten finishes in majors before finally winning.
Nice job

He was the butt of many a joke for years among me & my friends, but I found myself rooting for him yesterday.

Good story

Well done Sergio!
With so much talent it was saddening to see him come close often and then shoot himself in the foot.
He was "in and out of the zone" at various points on Sunday which made for great drama.

Don't be so sensitive Thask...geez. Folks used to tease Pletcher about having 16,000 Derby starters without actually winning it...did that offend you as well?

When the majors would roll around my friends and I would pick a few golfers and have a friendly wager...we always joked that Sergio was a good "in the money" guy but don't pick him to win...and then we all went haa haa.

As Greyfox already said in a prior post here, I find it saddening when a very talented athlete "blows up" in a pressure-packed situation...and I can't bring myself to make him the "butt of jokes for years". Maybe it's because I am reminded of the many times that I have "choked" in my OWN life. That's why I wonder aloud about the "success level" of those who DELIGHT at the sight of such public misfortune.

No big deal...

Genuine joy standing in the middle that green. You don't get to see that often. Good for him. I was cheering for him

Btw, pro golfers live a life of pure luxury at the top of the game. Huge ego is part and parcel to the job. I get a feeling Sergio is less drawn into it. But who knows......never met hin

I must say I too was thrilled Sergio won!

And at my age I don't get "thrilled" too often.

Consciously, or subconsciously, I think Rose let his friend win the playoff. Rose was all out to win through 72, but when it got down to him and his friend, there were some un-Rose-like questionable shots in the playoffs...

Remember those two horrendous shots Rose made where lucky bounces saved him -- one in the woods, that came out, and then the shot that hit the side of the bunker WAAAAYYYY off to the right and bounced all the way across the green and almost in the hole.

And then there was the Sergio-like putter failure.
