All the major market indexes were up pretty good today, yet volatility was also up--big. Markets were up big yesterday and VOL was down big, which is what you would expect.
You get a divergence like this every now and then, but I haven't seen VOL go up this much on a strong market day in quite a while.
Again, you have to look at the futures and they were all up across the board (except for May.)
Unless the market is down (big?) tomorrow, VOL should correct and contract. (I'm short VOL, could you guess?)
You could say if it keeps doing this something might be up, but as long as all of the futures are in contango I think it's just an anomaly.
