Songbird Won
Photo is after the wire so obvious. Look at stevens whip in official photo.
Pause this when they get to wire. And the fact SB is clearly ahead.

I don't disagree.
Clearly a dead heat.

She was great man! For weeks we were speculating on how fast she was capable of running. It's an angle we use at least every week horses with blow wins how much better. Any sane man had her on base tickets but the big ones had to have her off. She ran so well it definitely exceeded my expectations. But as I said on another thread, with 2 close photo finishes in the big dirt races and 2 obvious up and coming stars being there as 2 retire. Man isn't this just the best of both worlds for us as fans? I think so! Songbird is and was amazing. Another Medaglia Doro filly killing it!

Is it me or is that one of the greatest head/neck stretches I've ever seen?

Yes. That looks like beholder knowingly picked her mouth area up to stretch farther.

I took several screenshots of the NBC video - all at different intervals at the 6:09 mark - and all at the point where (based on my own judgement) the nose of a horse first breaks the plane of the center of the mirror.
ALL of the screenshots are nearly identical to the one that I uploaded to the bottom of this post.
Now, note the position of Stevens' whip in the screenshot (if it were a hand on a clock it would be somewhere between 12:00 and 1:00.)
Now follow the movement of Stevens' whip during the slow motion replay in the NBC video. (If Stevens' whip were a hand on a clock it would be moving counter clockwise.)
Now look at the position of Stevens' whip as it appears in the win photo from Plusmic. (If it were a hand on a clock it would be somewhere between 11:00 and 12:00.)
What we don't know is the exact angle of alignment relative to the center of the mirror resulting from the where NBC replay camera was placed.
Was it perfectly aligned with the mirror? If not - how far to the left or to the right of the center of the mirror was it placed?
I will say this:
IF -- and I want to emphasize the word IF here -- IF the NBC camera was placed in such a way that the replay footage is actually based on a 90 degree angle between the camera and the center of the mirror -- or even if the resulting angle is close enough to a 90 degree angle...
IF that is the case:
That kind of suggests - based on the position of Stevens' whip in the video replay at the point where the first nose (Songbird's nose) breaks the plane of the center of the mirror - that the win photo from Plusmic may have been taken a foot or so after both horses had moved past the center of the mirror - does it not?
I do want to say that when I watched the replay (several times now) shown on the ADW video feed - it does look to me like Beholder won the race.
But the NBC video is of a higher quality - and does suggest that Songbird may have in fact won.
I've long contended that racing is lagging WAY behind the times when it comes to this stuff - while the rest of the world has moved on.
I've also long contended that if major racetracks would install replay cameras of similar quality to the one used by NBC here -- and mount said replay cameras at a direct 90% angle to the center of the mirror:
THAT in itself would go a LONG way towards improving the fan experience - as well as giving racing a boost in the integrity department.
Because when a physical finish line (the center of the mirror) is clearly displayed in the background of the final frame of a true replay:
NO ONE (or almost no one) would likely EVER question the integrity of photo finishes again.
Thanks for reading my rant.

.
PS. And EMD4Me: Yes. Stevens' left palm is not visible because he is wearing a black half glove.
