Freaky stuff happens at Belmont. The Preakness seems to be more formful. 72 favorite in 140 Preakness' - which really is crazy if you think about it

it seems to me that a lot of the big upsets at the belmont occur on off tracks.

Pretty sure he was Destin's work out partner during Derby week.

Can you tell us why you feel that way? I checked, and since 2000, there have only been two Belmonts that were on off tracks. The 2003 race won by Empire Maker over Funny Cide, and the 2011 race won by Ruler On Ice. Every other race was on a fast track. Even the biggest upset I've ever seen at Belmont, the Bid loss, was on a fast track.

I thought it was sloppy in 2004 also when Birdstone beat Smarty Jones.

nope. Fast track with a winning time of 2:27.50. The 10F split was 2:00.52.

I could have sworn there was 2 inches of water on that track & Birdstone loves the slop.

I just watched the race to make sure the chart was accurate. The track wasn't dusty dry, but it certainly was fast, and I assure you it wasn't watery. I think you're remembering Funny Cide in 2003. That was a water park slide that day.

Always tough when they lack the seasoning but show a lot of talent .
Check him out in the paddock and warm ups .
Collected is one I'm looking at too. .
No way you can't take a second look at a Baffert.runner in the Preakness . .

We have an un raced Bernardini mare 1/2 sister to Stradivari. So you know who i'm rooting for. Big step up in class for sure. That allowance race he won at Keeneland was pretty weak competition wise. Just hoping for gr.1 placing...

Only about a length away from getting that placing. He ran quite well, better than I would've expected given the trip. Was rated away from the hot pace which was a good thing to do, but he didn't corner all that well and lost quite a bit of ground while the winner saved all the ground. Considering it was a big class jump plus he'd never been that far off of the pace before, as well as the ground loss it was a solid effort. Inexperience probably beat him more than any lack of inherent talent.
