Have you seen the purse levels in California? They're a lot higher than slot-infused purses at other tracks.

Yesterday at Parx a 5 claimer went for 21000. Today at golden gate a 10 claimer went for 13000.
I'm confused at what you're saying.

This chart is from the 4th race last Fri @ GGF. 7 horses entered--4 scratched.
HORSEPLAYERS don't want to go here--much less any casual fan. Young people certainly don't want to go--not when there's at least 4 casinos within a couple hours drive of GGF. Note the handle for the DD.
The exacta wasn't a bad payoff--very winnable and you got 3.5X your wager --some doofus dumped a few grand on the 4-7...only way to explain that payoff.

Trifecta in a 3 horse field ? Really ?

10 races today, 56 runners after scratches (assuming no more scratches.) 5.6 horses per race, that's just sad.

I have yet to go to one of those Cali Indian casinos. I hear they have completely different rules for California blackjack, at least in San Jose. Just another way to bleed more money from the public. And no, I have yet to visit Golden Gate Fields.
