There may be an option to avoid automatic updates for Windows 10

One of the things I have done over the years to protect myself from bad Windows updates is to install them manually.

While this may not be a good idea for most users, it has certainly helped me avoid at least a few problems where the Microsoft fix was not available for a couple of weeks.

The ability to turn off these automatic updates is eliminated in the new Windows 10 operating system except in the professional and enterprise versions. I generally have the professional versions installed on my machines, so I am not really impacted. For those who are and who might want this control, there seems to be an option that Microsoft will make available:

I've always just had windows update automatically, because I trust Microsoft, and know them to be a fine American Co. that would NEVER let any harm come to my computer. You all fascist Doubting Thomas' should be ashamed of yourselves.

I apologize.

I feel so ashamed and dirty right now.

Here's some help from good sites and savvy users. If it saves one person from computer frustration I'll be a happy camper.

You might want to read the new licensing agreement really careful.
You are agreeing to not just allowing updates, but an other changes MS wants to do. Also, by-passing updates could lead to W10 ceasing to function.

I am pretty excited - this is the week I update to the new Windows....Win7!
With Windows going to subscription relatively soon, I am sure this is my last MS OS. Time to find alternatives such as Linux, but I am not usre much of horse racing stuff will carry over.

I'm not very computer literate.
So when Microsoft sent me Windows 10, I just pushed the button and went for it.
It took about 10 to 20 minutes or so to put whatever they were putting in.
So far everything seems to work fine, although I had to hunt for where my Word Processor and Excel programs went.
No complaints so far (fingers crossed).

I'm not that brave, backing up my system now in case I don't like it so I can go back to 8. But I doubt it will happen. I'll have 10 installed (probably between Saratoga and Del Mar today) and see how it goes. I did quite a bit of reading on it last night.

So far so good with Windows 10. Easy to install and done in like 30 minutes for me. Haven't explored much but I'm back working and everything has been perfect. Going to learn as I go rather than try to figure it all out in the beginning.

I'm waiting for someone to tell us if BRIS custom PP generator works with windows 10, but since I have two windows tablets, I will eventually just try it with one of them.

Any problems with video i.e., replays or YouTube?

If so, what are our alternatives?

I read that Windows Media will not play with Win 10.

Does Windows 10 have start button? Did you have to reinstall any of your browsers.

Other than that did you have to do anything special before you installed, or was it just install/and bam, you're up and running?

The start button is back. I didn't have to re-install anything. Everything so far is working fine.
