For Windows 10, do I need to Understand Clouds?

I'm really computer ignorant and if something works ok, I don't mess with it. I know Windows 10 at the latest will be the operating system by 2020, but it could be much earlier, if I get real brave. Question: Do I need to understand anything about a "Cloud" to use Windows 10?

"The Cloud" is nothing more than a trendy tech term for a network of servers; you don't have to know any more than that for what you want to do any more than you have to know how to rebuild a transmission to drive a car.

If you are a computer user, chances are you are using the Cloud, even if you do not realize it.

A short answer to you question, is that no, you do not necessary need to understand anything about the cloud, since modern OSs and internet applications are doing a great job, to hide all the related complexity.

You can think of the 'cloud' as a network of servers or the internet itself. Any time you are accessing your email, your google Docs or a file in dropbox, you are using the 'cloud', even if you have no idea about it.

Just remember the cloud is just 'some one else's computers.'

Will your personal W10 system force you to do anything new or different which would involve cloud computing? No, not directly.

Indirectly you will be using a cloud service for the maintenance that Microsoft will be putting on your system but, from the 30,000 foot view, it will not be too different that what you experience now.

The cloud bailed me out recently when I lost an Excel file on my computer and again when my windows 7 computer died. It did take a bit of learning to get my stuff from the cloud, but that was far better losing everything which what happened before the cloud when one of my computers died.
