No TC winner has ever won the Haskel, or even ran in it, I don’t believe. If he won the Haskel then the Travers, sweeping those five races would be a feat that would probably never be repeated.

FRANKLY, I THOUGHT BAFFERT WOULD SIMPLY TARGET THE BREEDERS CUP, WHICH SHOULD BE THE ULTIMATE RACE PRIOR TO AP'S RETIREMENT.

I think the BCC is where the emphasis is for Baffert also, therefore, whatever prep scenario he feels will put AP in the best condition for the BCC is probably the way he'll go (unless Zayat just absolutely overrules him of course).

The past 11 Triple Crown winners might not be of significance in the case for the Haskell. Unlike today, was the race an invitational, their connections paid to come there? ....Could be wrong, but don't think it was back then.

No, the BC didn't exist when Affirmed last won. Probably the closest comparison would be the Jockey Club Gold Cup. TC/JCGC winners:
Gallant Fox
Citation
Won JCGC as a 4yo:
War Admiral
Whirlaway
Affirmed

It was a handicap race for older horses until made a 3yo invitational race in 1981.

Point Given did both, why can't American Pharoah? (I see I'm not the first to say that in this thread)

The good folks at Monmouth have CONSIDERABLE resources at their disposal, sir, and can be very persuasive. They play hardball, and they play it hard. Mark my vote as the Haskell.

If he goes to the Travers and BCC, he will have won a G1 at each of the 6 major tracks. That would be an incredible achievement.

I'd have said the Travers, but between what you wrote and Baffert having won the Haskell seven times, it's certainly possible he'll opt for the trip to Monmouth.

that's true, they are one of the few racing operations without slot machines or casino's that are profitable, unlike what most people think or write about, and they do have plenty of money to put the show on.

Baffert on Mike Francessa's show was not sure what was next.Only that it would be on the east coast.Fats was pushing for the Spa but Baffert did not say anything.
