Interesting horse......but losing by 8 lengths throws me off of him, & his win at 1 1/16 in 1:47 is pathetic. Pharaoh ran 1 1/8 in 1:48

Agree. This race set up for him perfectly from a pace/position standpoint and he couldn't even sniff AP.

The Sunland Derby is 1 1/8. He ran faster in terms of raw time than AP. Sunland Park is a speed trap though. Raw times don't mean much.

How do you figure the race today setup perfectly for him? AP wasn't on the lead. He was stalking in a clear path and a perfect trip. Nothing about how the race setup was friendly to a closer. AP took it easy until go time so yes by the time Far Right showed up AP was long gone.

Nothing in the Derby is going to be as easy as these preps have been for these favorites. They are going to have to go faster for longer against a better field than any of them have faced to this point.

I'm not calling Far Right a lock, he'll be a long shot for good reason. I'm saying in a 10 furlong pace meltdown this horse could mop up the mess.

Timeform gave American Pharoah a 113

Pace
1/2 136
3/4 120
Fin 111

That puts him right with Dortmund and Firing Line for the highest figs so far in prep season.

Sorry you guys were talking about Far Right - I thought you were talking about Firing Line.
