MoneyGram. Need Your Help.

Have never tried it to fund my ADW account with MoneyGram. If you have, pros and cons. How much information do you need to provide? Do you need to pre-register?

Went ahead and gave it a shot. Small deposit. Local CVS Pharmacy. Told to use this red phone. I thought I was calling the Kremlin. You know..."the hot line". What I didn't like. No privacy. Thankfully not many people in pharmacy at time, yet phone was near check-out area. It was amidst the photo-screening portion of the pharmacy. If someone had been there screening their photos, I wouldn't have even bothered.

Well, I picked up the receiver. Seconds later, robo messages: Press one for English, two for Spanish, etc. Got through all this and keypad touched-in my 10-digit phone number. Eventually spoke with a live person; yet that takes time. Frustratingly long. Tell agent: name, phone, address where it's going, e.g., ADW info, code number, my account # (not crazy about that) and that was about it.

Then, person told me to go to cashier to complete transaction. Cashier asks: "Are you paying a bill?" In my tidy little brain I'm thinking I'm not (I'm funding my ADW). He says he can't complete transaction. By the way, I didn't have to show identification as the cashier knows me (actually he was a former student).

I get on the red phone again. I remember pressing #5 (transaction problem not yet completed) Wait! Wait! Wait! Finally, I tell person on other hand, "It didn't go through". He says, "You must tell cashier, "You're paying a bill."

Well, I tell cashier, he presses paying bill and viola, we're in business. One glitch. Before I agree to transaction, I look at screen with info on my funding using MoneyGram. The five-digit ADW number is not matched, only four digits. I cancel.

Back on their red hotline phone. Go through the same procedure. Wait! Wait! Wait! Live person. Explain only four digits, not five. She says it's OK. CVS will only show the first four numbers of ADW code.

Again, back to cashier, accept transaction. When I get back home about five minutes later, I'm in.

Comments: Not that difficult once you know procedure. Not much privacy on phone, not like telephone booth. Long waits during process. Could be smoother. Don't like giving out my personal account number at ADW (one reason I don't keep a lot in there at any one time). Only reason I didn't have to show ID was because clerk knew me. Not as prying as I thought, not that much info given, but again, the privacy issue of making the transaction from a public place.

I used to fund sports overseas account western union,but hear they are getting strict, how much was moneygram

I would recommend using the online bill pay feature. On twinspires I noticed an option recently to deposit using online bill pay. My bank "Chase" was listed in the dropdown as approved banks to use for this type of deposit. I followed the below steps and bankroll was available.

1. Entered the amount I wanted to deposit
2. Entered my bank online logon credentials
3. Verified security code via email
4. Funds were deposited and my checking account debited. Transaction shown as "CHDN TECH" in the amount requested.

*No fees, and the amount was immediately available in my account.

I have now used MoneyGram, twice. The second time was "a breeze".
I'm not here to recommend nor dissuade anyone from using this method to fund their ADW.

Let me take you through the activity. Here goes:

1) Picked up red phone.

2) Automated robo-voice takes you through the steps, e.g. English, press one; Spanish, press two, etc.

3) I indicated by my touch-tone entry that "I'm paying a bill".

4) I was asked by the robo voice whether the payee was the ADW that I funded the previous time, I indicated "yes".

5) I then, as I recall, told a "live" person the ADW's account number, my own personal ADW account number, and the amount I was funding.

All this couldn't have taken much more than one minute, possibly a minute and half.

I then told the CVS drugstore clerk that: "I was paying a bill". She indicated, as was previously indicated in the phone call, that "the vig" was $3.95.

The clerk then showed me my transaction on a screen pad (the one you use when you make a transaction, e.g. cash, credit, etc). I checked to see that the info on the screen correctly stated all the information in the agreement. The clerk then asked for a photo ID, e.g. driver's license. All checked out.

Last step: Gave the clerk the amount I wanted funded, plus "vig". That was it. Oh, I did have to sign a slip for the transaction (I received a copy). I'm not sure they'd accept a credit card. Again, that was it. Voila! The money was in my ADW account when I arrived home five minutes later.

In answer to Judd's question. I thought "the vig" for overseas transactions were higher.

Which ADW do you have? As I mentioned earlier in this post if you have twinspires you can do online bill pay as long as your bank is listed in the dropdown of authorized banks. No need to leave the house, no ID to show, and best of all not vig to pay. Preferred method for me now.
