Bayern ran in the Trial last year, DQed from first to second.

True. But Bayern got squashed in the Preakness. Then ran like the wind in the Stephens. I suspect the Stephens is a far better landing spot anyway for most of the competitive Derby Trial runners. Besides, if Derby horses can run back in two weeks, so can Derby Trial horses if the connections are motivated to do so.

Bayern never had a chance in the Preakness, was squashed at the start. I realize they can still run back, but most likely they won't.
