You have to hand it to John Avello.
If there's an opportunity to promote via futures betting, he's on it.
Naturally, there is little, or no, value there.
However, the list of potential participants is much smaller than the Derby.
The only problem I have with it is this.
There should be a "field" bet.
He should update the list every month, and change the bet# on "the field".
If you can't win betting on a proposition, you shouldn't be able to lose on it.

Too skinny.
Certainly 1-10, though.

This has been out for awhile. They had it when I was in Vegas at Christmastime and bet the Derby future book. It's ridiculous.

This is silly. But at the same time, who can blame them if bettors are gullible enough to wager on this?

He's recovered, and they plan to run him again.

Please ignore my ignorance on this but what happens to the $$$ when none of these win the race? I mean with no field beat and all?

House took the risk, so to speak, so house keeps the handle.
The more I look at the odds, they really should be embarrassed to hang this.
Most of those numbers should be doubled or tripled.

I am a huge Palace Malice fan, and his odds of 6/1 are off the charts ridiculous. Hopefully he comes back strong, but it is a 50/50 proposition at best.
I would have to get 20/1 to 30/1 to even start thinking about making a wager on him at this point in time.
These odds look like we are a month out and half the field has already been decided upon.

Very true.
The odds listing is for show - strictly for marketing.
They really aren't encouraging anyone to make a bet.
Anyone who has the slightest concept of odds value, that is.

With so few horses offered this far out, an oddsmaker has little choice but to keep the odds fairly low to protect the book's exposure. Given that folks have to be in Las Vegas to make this bet, Avello is wise to put it out in December for those who may only visit once a year. He surely knows how to make his book profitable or he wouldn't be at a property like Wynn.
