Equibase new format
What do you think of Equibase's new page layout? I generally don't care for change for change's sake, and this one qualifies. Seems like the new layout wastes a lot of screen space.

I like re-designs when they work better while looking better. Hastings and Northlands new websites are examples of this. I definitely like the old format more.

The font is quite large. They must have done market research to find that the average horseplayer is 70+ years old.

They should have one of those buttons you push to put it back to the old way.

Yeah, it's too "touchy" for my taste.

Looks like they wanted to make the font and buttons bigger and clearer which I cant blame them for - it'll both appeal to the older demo and be more user friendly for the tablet audience. The words "buy" and "purchase" are all over the home page though. They're impossible to miss and they are clearly trying to drive sales of their products, which isnt a bad thing, but it might be a little excessive though

Yeah, it's understandable. I will add, with customer service in the news of late, or rather poor customer service in the news (e.g. Comcast, etc.), Equibase delivers. I've screwed up by purchasing the wrong forms, or had trouble downloading PP's due to my antiquated equipment (or whatever), and they've always been very accommodating. So, I just wanted to reinforce that they do care about their customers, from my experience.

Nice they hired a 1st grader to do some commercial web design.

The girl designing the DRF site won't be in first grade until this fall.

My impression of equibase new layout is that it's intended to funnel more traffic in the direction of their product line rather than making it so easy to access the freebies without even looking at their marketables.
The new layout makes it more of a chore to get to the charts manual databases depend on, and requires more patience and effort to access entries to other than their "feature tracks" etc, etc.

It seems designed for touch screens, keeping in line with the majority of websites these days that feel they have to cater to the tablet and smartphone crowd.
I'd rather there be separate versions of websites on tablets and smartphones than on desktop, as the new site looks terrible if I'm using my laptop and external mouse.

Totally undesirable...
...and unnecessary.
However, much of what is deemed to be "progress" fits into this category.
I will adjust, unwillingly.
