How much is the TOTAL stock market worth?
Say if someone wanted to buy EVERY share available of ALL companies listed???
or let's just say the S&P 500 by itself?

I believe the number is around $20 trillion (as of 9/30/13) - you can pull up the Federal Reserve's qtr'ly net worth stats if you need the exact number. If you can't find, I'll post for you later.

A general number can also be found looking at total assets of the fund that Vanguard offers, the Total Stock Market Index.

Gee whiz -- that sounds like the same amount of funds spent in the last 50 years as a part of the war on poverty.

Norway owns about 1% of the world's stock.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/every-no...theoretically/
The value of their holdings is $828.66 billion.
If my math is correct, 100 times that is $82,866,000,000,000 or almost $83 trillion for the world's stock.
Maybe the U.S. is 20 to 25% of that -- which would make the U.S. stocks worth about $20 trillion -- which is consistent with what Saratoga_Mike wrote.

Read on Bloomberg, this morning that this sell off has resulted in a 3 trillion dollar loss of market cap, worldwide.

The market has had a good run since 2009 -- much more than 3 trillion.
My model has been giving some sell signals, but I'm going to wait it out to see what happens on Friday before I sell.
