Optimizer
Optimizer is one of my favorite horses. He runs about once a month and 25 out of 28 times he's run in graded stakes. He is the kind of horses racing needs (he just needs to win more often). I missed the Sword Dancer today and got my virtual stable email saying he had finish last by lengths. I watched the replay and saw cantering(is that the right horse term) way behind heading into the stretch. Has anyone heard of what happened to him? He usually runs toward the front but languished near the back all day.

He's a gamer, alright.
I'm not sure if he got hurt today, or not.
Hopefully nothing serious, but the horse would likely benefit from some time off.
I've noticed in the past, too, that some of his best races are on soft turf.
The ground was pretty firm today at the Spa, I'm thinking.

Big Optimizer fan. If you ask me, he wasn't ready to run today, so he didn't! His last 3 works were terrible, all near the bottom of the rankings. Probably needs a lay-off. That is, if he wasnt injured today. Poor judgement by the "coach." Then again, I don't know the whole story. Perhaps his owners are the one's wanting to run him so often.
Here's his equibase page

With the coach, its not about the horses....its about running in big races, running on big days, etc. That guy won't sit out a dance and "do right by the horse" too often.

Right. And I'd say many owners with the same outlook are the ones that hire him

You guys act like Lukas has never won a race with a horse the public thought had no shot. I didn't bet Optimizer as I thought for sure he was over the top with his no excuse loss last out, but Lukas has won many big races with horses coming in off bad efforts.

This horse has had 28 starts and his longest layoff is 51 days. He needs a break.

ManU918 said it correctly the horse needs a break. SRU said it also Lukas likes to dance every dance and that's how its always been with him. Sad but true.
Look at his works since June 22nd. In less than 2 months the horse had 6 works and 2 races. Can you say the horse is dull and has no energy?
On July 13th the horse ran in a Grade 1. 9 days later he works at Saratoga. Why? Someone explain to me why this horse worked 9 days after running in a Grade 1 race? Hey Lukas you are not going to get this horse any fitter than he already is. Once a horse is fit hes fit. Horse has 28 starts hes freakin fit you butcher of a trainer. And then he works him 2 more times after the July 22nd work. Freakin stupid...

Put him away for at least a couple of months
Bring him back in the fall - they'll find some nice races on the turf for him at Keeneland, or at Fairgrounds.
He definitely prefers some ease in the ground.

Oh stop it. It's been many years since Lukas danced every dance and you know it.
You're just not used to a trainer these days who actually RUNS his horses, instead of coddling them like they were made of fine paper dust.
I wish you guys posted as much when some of your beloved trainers have a horse go bad on them...
You know, if you search the New York Equine Death and Injury database, Bill Mott has three hits and Lukas only has two when it comes to fatalities. When it comes to injuries + deaths, it's 7-4 in favor of Mott. I realize Mott is based in NY and all and has more starters than Lukas here...but the way you guys love to demonize Lukas, I would have bet money that Lukas would have had more injuries/deaths on his record than Mott...
Go figure.
