This is a great idea...too bad I never thought of looking for such a thing when I cobbled together my "over the monitor" lighting solution...when my setup finally loses its velcro holding power, I'll definitely look into getting one of these.

I actually looked for this solution several years ago and it did not exist, at least not as nice as this. The old stuff took batteries. This goes into a USB port. Having 3 color settings is very nice

I’m pretty sure these things have been around for a while. Benq has a really nice one with good reviews , but fairly eggspensive

It’s expensive, not eggs-oh wait. That was a yolk.

What is the purpose of this light?

Is it to change the way our eyes see the screen or something else?

Nope. It provides light on your keyboard and the area around it without having to have an overhead light that spoils the room (as they say in projector circles)

Gamers I think would really like it

The rest of the room is dark and your monitor is not degraded due to glare or light from anywhere else. It makes a big difference if you ask me.

Ah.
I use a RedDragon keyboard with lighted keys.

They are very heavy and surprisingly cheap as well. Last time I bought one it was under $20! (About a year ago.)

I've been using one very similar to this since we started working from home
https://www.amazon.com/soysout-Eye-Caring-Charging-Lighting-Brightness/dp/B09MTH4JFL

Mine was by TaoTronics, looks identical though, just rebranded apparently.

What I like about it is I'm able to angle the light bar completely away from my eyes yet still downward enough to provide enough light for my workspace, keyboard etc. The other thing I like is the one color mode which has a darker almost a slightly reddish hue to it. Seems easy on the eyes but mine are getting worse every year so don't take my word for it.
