Really Kung Flu, is that really offensive? It did start in China where many of these pandemics start, we can't talk about that?

3 weeks ago we were living in paradise, everything was running on 12 cylinders, truthfully i have never seen it better. today we get hit and its truly an apocalyptic hell that won't end soon.
we are all going to lose family members and dear friends. in the face of it all we must remain strong so that we can help each other get through this nasty ordeal.
the government that we have voted in is a major failure, we have to step up with our own common sense to do what's good for our family's and get to the other side. no matter how bleak i sound, i promise better days will come. believe me that we do have great members that work behind the scenes in our government who dedicate their lives to try to keep us safe.
i have a friend that went to Holly Cross with 80 year old Dr. Anthony Fauci, who tells me that he will never lie to us. i suggest you listen to him when he speaks and pay no attention to the others that get up on that stage.

Surely you jest.
They are authoritarian .

It’s like saying trump defends the Saudi govt.

Potentially losing my job...yes...you'd be getting warm there...but haven't lost a non-retirement cent in the market....in fact, a market like this is the kind I dream about (not the down part...the volatility part...). It's the kind that only comes around once every 10 years or so if you're lucky (and trade the market, not invest in it).
But thanks for projecting.

I was not trying to be an asshole. That was my attempt to show empathy and agree with you. Perhaps I did it poorly. Perhaps I made assumptions I shouldn't have due to your many comments in the financial markets thread. FWIW, I am happy that you did not lose anything.
I still agree with you, projecting or not.

So if the death rate from the typical seasonal flue is 0.2 percent, and the death rate of this flu is 1.6 percent, are we really saying that given the current data this flu is 800 percent more deadly?

South Korea’s population is around 51 million; U.S. 327 million.
As of today, 3/19/30, South Korea has had 91 deaths, the U.S. 155.
The U.S. is doing a better job by a factor of 3.75, losing only 0.474 x 10-4 % of their population vs. 1.78 *x 10-4 %
https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/16/opini...itz/index.html
Add that the U.S. has a greater % of people over 60 (20% vs. 18.5%). The article also states that in spite of more testing in South Korea, we are not going to "test our way out of this crises."

Yes, my many comments in the financial markets threads included plenty in the last few weeks which stated I don't hold anything long term in the markets other than whatever is in my 401k.

This is from the Ky Announcement thread - thought better to bring it here.
They have been telling Mothers to send their kids to the parks on TV this week.
Part of the education has to be - do not watch the news - seriously. Every idiot out there has a great idea. And an audience.
But how much more education could have been provided? It has been dominating TV for over week now.
In NYC, the number of cases doubled overnight.
Had they NOT closed things down like they did, what would that 3,000 number today? 4,000? 6,000?
Imagine my surprise when I find I am agreeing with DeBlasio more than most anyone else!
Maybe we DO need some degree of martial law, at least in hot spots.
