Papers Comrade?

US cracking down on citizenship for hundreds of Hispanics along border: report

This is pretty wild... favorite excerpt:

Quote:
“Individuals who are unable to demonstrate that they were born in the United States are denied issuance of a passport," the official said. "The Department’s determination in such cases affects only the passport, and not citizenship status, of the applicant."
That just doesn't make any sense...

Who but an idiot would issue a passport to someone that could not prove their citizenship?

Other that the obvious one....

https://fastportpassport.com/blog/pr...rt-application

Quote:
Proof of Citizenship for Passport Application
Proof of U.S. citizenship is required to obtain your passport. New passport applicants will need to submit documents that are accepted as evidence of U.S. citizenship, usually a birth certificate or naturalization paperwork. It is important to make certain that the documents submitted meet all of the U.S. State Department’s requirements. If the applicant is only renewing a passport, then the old passport book will suffice as the necessary proof, as long as it is not damaged.

I've never heard of anyone forging a birth certificate.

Is that a thing?

Unsurprisingly, not really, Tom didn't read the article... anywho...

I found the last paragraph funny. Without a passport they can't really leave either.

Assuming they're not citizens of course.

It would come in pretty handy though, for some people, like a fake driver's license when you want to buy beer when you're under 21.

I'm sure there's a market for it in certain places, especially for talented forgers...

Then again, I'm told it's not really a thing, so forget I mentioned it.
